The *Official* Eve Online Thread

last time i tried fitting the retri with t2 beam (quite some time ago) i had real trouble fitting them, bearing my alt has Advance Weapons Upgrade lvl 4.

May have the check them again.

This is the only game I've played that makes me tempted to get two accounts. My main now has mainly missile skills with a smattering of mining as well.

I'm tempted to create another account just so I can play around with an assault frigate with rail skills.

But seeing as I seem to spend far too much time on this I'm not even sure this is wise making another character.

Ok, I'm starting to get into this now:D

I'm doing lots of missions for my agent but I have one where he has given me a "kill" mission and I have to kill an NPC that is way too strong for me. I have upgraded my Rookie ship to a low-end Caldari frigate and now I'm trying to put some weapons on it so I can take on the NPC ship again. What are the best weapons related skills for a new player to be learning?

Missile point? Do you mean a place on my ship to launch missiles from?

I've only been playing since just before the weekend so bear with me:)

Each ship has a set number of High Slots, these slots are are used to fit modules that affect things outside your ship (such as Guns, Rocket/Missile launchers, etc).

Your ship also has another two attributes which govern how many of what you can fit, these are hardpoints, and are physical locations that you can fit a weapon on. There are two types of hardpoint:

Turret Hardpoints for Guns (Railguns, Blasters, Lasers, Autocannons, etc) and Mining Lasers.

Launcher Hardpoints for Rocket Launchers and Missile Launchers.

Not left with a lot of options on the Retri :p

Though the only item you can call as part of a tank setup on there is the repper, nothing else is for tanking purposes, 3 hs2's and 1 nano (later swapped for a cpr) :p

Hmmm, what spawns can you take in that? I'm based in Guristas space and I have to use a passive thermal hardener to keep up with the damage from some of the larger spawns... e.g. triple 900k. Also, Guristas tank like biatches against thermal and EM, so the Retribution's efficiency against them is severely limited :(

They won't tank EM and therm as hard as angels, thus why I have to fit 3 hs2's to be able to pop the biguns :)

Angels primarily do Exp and Kinetic, with the occasional splash of Thermal in the form of phased plasma but they are only from BS which never hit, so a tank is not necessary against 'normal' spawns, but the t2 frigs hurt lots :( :)

These are a few screenshots from when we captured one of the last NBSI stations in the north.

It was actually the quickest we have ever taken out the shield on a station and a prime opportunity for me to test out my new sentry drones :)

Nice screens mate, how long did it take you to down the sheilds on it? would imagine it would take a while.

Those screens make me remember why i used to play EVE. I got turned away by game politics and POS management!

Oh yeah Pos management is a real pain in the butt, takes far too much time to run them on a small scale imo.

I'm thinking about taking a dip into Eve but want to know if there is an equivalent of "snipers" in the game. As a COD2 player I think its the height of gayness and selfishness to hide in cover miles away from anyone and snipe safe in the knowledge that unless the other guy has a snipe also you are have a major advantage just because of your gay choice of weapon. What I'm on about are there any skills/ship/weapon choice that emulates this "sniper" situation for players at the same level? I appreciate that if you come up against a higher level player you're always going to get "sniped" as it were I suppose because of skill related weapon range.

I don't want to drag this thread off topic but what on earth do you think the point in a sniper is? COD2 is a WW2 game and this is exactly what snipers did in WW2

Tell me about it, i was running 4 Large POS's on my own while taking down / putting up / looking after about 10 mediums! It was a nightmare so i just took some time out until they sort the management system out properly. It was because the old director used to have a different system but left all of a sudden, the new director was thrown in at the deep end and took a while to get the ball rolling.

In short yes, you can fight from a very long way out in Eve, usually just referred to as sniping, however it is not always a reliable way of actually destroying someone as you can't stop them simply warping out from sniping distances, and headshots obviously don't exist in Eve.

Now something is puzzling me here, I can't quite work out how exactly a persons sexuality and choice of weapon in COD have any connection at all. Do homosexual persons usually favour sniping then? ...or perhaps you are suggesting that sniper rifles are a 'happy' choice of weapon, but your context doesn't make any sense in this regard either. Puzzling.

I'd also like to inform you that those snipers have the 'right' idea, rather than getting down and dirty and likely killed they are keeping their distance and picking their targets off with little immediate risk to themselves ...this is clearly an intelligent and logical adaptation, using a weapon with superior range and using cover and distance is a tactical advantage over the enemy ....this isn't selfish but smart, and believe me, Eve will bite you hard if you aren't smart about it.

Someone will nail you for your mistakes sooner or later, Eve is a game that demonstrates Darwinian capitalism in all it's glory, bountiful to those who know how to play the 'game' ...i.e. the strong, and cruel and brutal to those that don't ...the weak. There is precious little room in Eve for knightly jousting, it does happen from time to time but only when people agree on it, which is pretty rare in my experience. 90% of the time fights are forced by one party or the other and you must simply fight to survive.

It's a phrase that annoying pedants find puzzling.
