let's not forget he beat him standing and Shogun is one of the best at stand up.
he may not have massive power in his punches but his knees and elbows seem to be pretty lethal.

Lets not get over the top here. Rewatch it then decide, the vast majority of his standing strikes very ineffective. He has only been training 3 years so it's understandable.

Although as shogun becomes more tired, he does hit him a with more frequency.

I dont even want to talk about Mirko, its just so sad to see whats happening too him.

Shogun for me, didnt employ the right tactics at all, dropped for so many leg locks which seemed like suicide to me as well. He knew he was going to get taken down at some stage, so whilst on the feet why not unload with his amazing leg kicks, it would have slowed Jones down tremendously. When he said in the interview with Rogan, the plan was to fight him everywhere and anywhere the fight went, seemed a little strange to me.

This coupled with that knee/kick against the cage sapping away his cardio, and the fact bones looked like a weight class bigger than him, was a recipe for disaster.

Pretty gutted just got back from abroad to see Shogun so dominated was not what I wanted. I find it sad really as that was not the Shogun we are used to seeing I think his career is effectively over you can not keep coming back from those injuries full strength and at the level MMA is at now you always need to be 100%. But irrespective of the results I still believe that the Pride fights with Wanderlei, Shogun and Fedor etc were the most entertaining fights I have ever seen along with the whole Pride spectacle and for that reason I will always support those fighters.

Jones could be champ for a long long time BUT there is still one huge thing we haven't seen yet.

Does he possess a chin? If he has one like Arlovski as soon as it gets discovered he is going to have problems, if his chin is like Henderson's then he is going to be champion until he can't make 205 anymore, or someone new is introduced to the UFC, the current pool of LHW's I don't see as too much of a threat.

Great fight by Jones IMO - I'm just looking forward to a LHW champion that can hold on to his belt for a little while!!
There has only been 2 successful defences of the belt since Liddell held it in 2007 - and one of those was Machida's "victory" over Shogun in their first fight!

I think Bones has got a great chance of being a dominant LHW champion ala Chuck! :D

For me the Jones/Shogun fight was a huge let down and a bit of an embarrassment.

Shogun was out of shape, as mentioned by others he always looks like a normal bloke as opposed to a chiselled athlete, but he was noticeably slow and flabby around the hips and stomach. Too long out and too many knee surgeries?

Jones had flashes of greatness but again was gassed real badly by the end of the first. Stand up didn't look particularly fantastic as I felt any competent striker could've capitalised on the opportunities Jones had throughout the fight.

Over hyped fighter versus out of shape fighter. Joe Rogan's talk of a new era of domination sounded oddly familiar of the drivel he was spilling about Machida and we all know how that 'new era of domination' went down.

I was disappointed to see Shogun able to do nothing. I need to watch it again, but the fight seemed like 100% being controlled by bones. I have never even heard of this guy, but in 5 minutes I was impressed. The guy is massive. I think the extra hight and reach just made it hard for Shogun to handle. Shogun didn't look him self though.

Don't see Rashad beating him. Would love to see what Machida would do :)

Because the whole point of a 'kicking' strike is to be able to strike your opponent at a distance away so not being able to be punched in return.
That wouldn't work with Jones. If Shogun had thrown any leg-kicks he would have been EASILY countered by a straight-right-hand from Jones

I'll be interested to see how Rashad fights him, baring in mind they have trained together for a fair while. If Rashad knew he was going to get destroyed I'm sure he would stay at Jacksons and drop to 185.

The fact he has chosen to leave and take on Jones makes me think he is confident he can beat him, i'll be excited to see how this fight pans out.

I'd also like to see Machida vs Jones.

'Jon Jones landed 102 strikes, 75 of which FightMetric classified as significant. "Shogun" tallied 11 strikes for the entire fight. He attempted 42.'

Okay.

I believe the hype is warranted. The fact he has been training in MMA for 3 years and then dominates great fighters such as; Shogun, Hamill, Vera, Bonnar and Bader is pretty remarkable.

The bitterness some people posses after one of their favorites fighter gets smashed is rather child-like.

Not 100% sure about this TBH - sure, Jones looked a little out of breath but I'd say he could also have just been a bit wary of Shogun!
Looked to me like he was being very cautious and getting his breath back at the same time - he basically has short flurries of activity and it works very nicely!

I have no favourites. I'm a fan of the sport, not any particular participant.

Let's be honest here Shogun looked real bad, like when he fought Coleman over in Ireland, he looked like he had barely trained.

I think Jones is still somewhat untested, he has yet to take a big shot and his cardio looked to be a problem. The only true 'great' fighter Jones has beat in the list you've put up is Shogun and with his hit and miss performances in recent years it could be argued that he is no longer the fighter he once was.

Jones looks to have the skillset and natural ability to succeed but only time will tell whether or not he can be classed amongst the true greats of the sport.

3 years training is a bit silly imho, the guys been wrestling for ages. Anyway the Rashad fight will be very interesting, he might actually know and be able to show any weaknesses in Bones.
