**The Official Everything MMA Related Thread**

You do get some boring fights were both guys are fighting safe and trying to win on points its true, but on the whole I reckon MMA has been improving and were seeing the fights we wanna see more then ever. You may get a lackluster ufc event sometimes but theres always a cracker with knock outs or just pure fight on heart fights.

I don't suppose anyone knows if Leben vs Munoz is in fact the main event for the Card in Birmingham in November?

The reason I ask this is because it has yet to be announced on the UFC site, whereas Cain vs JDS is on there, despite being after the card in Birmingham.

Hmmmm. Food for thought.

Yeah, it definitely is. Not sure why it's not on the UFC site, it's been confirmed basically everywhere else. Apparently it's also the first 5 round non-title fight.

Still kinda surprised they're putting the Heavyweight title as the main event for an 'On Fox' show, though I suppose it is the first one of those after moving to Fox so they want it to be a good show.

yeah that Leben vs Munoz fight sounds good but it almost feels like its unoffical !

I think the fox debut fight will be awesome, what better way to start out with a heavyweight championship bout.

Will be interesting too see gsp vs nick diaz next month and we still got rampage vs bones in 20 days time... we still got some nice fights for this year!

Yes sir.

UK fans get a rubbish main event as per usual, don't get me wrong I like the match up. But it isn't a main eventer lets face it.
Not quite sure about that. You can't say it's a bad main-event or card before it's happened

For example; GSP vs Diaz sounds like it'd be a great fight, but GSP could play it safe for 5 rounds.. you really never know. I've seen prelims that were more exciting than main events.

Fingers crossed though.

So true I can see gsp staying out of reach and just jabbin diaz for 5 rounds. After a few 1000 jabs to the eye or face theres nothing left.

Will be interesting if Kosh will be approved to fight against matt hughes also :)

For me, GSP like Anderson Silva is 20% above every other fighter in his weight class at the moment. Saying that, it's hard to get excited over someone who fights like he isn't fighting. I can marvel over his skill level, but he won't get me jumping out of my seat.

Give me Leben, Lytle, Meathead etc. Guys who fight like they're ripping a juicy steak out of a lions mouth. Would be nice to see a big name over here but Leben v Munoz should at least be a decent fight.

UFC: Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem set for Dec. 30

Brock Lesnar will return to the UFC octagon in a five-round main event Dec. 30 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, facing newly signed former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem.

"Brock is a big name, a dangerous guy, and this is a dream matchup," Overeem told The Times on Tuesday, just after signing a standard UFC fight contract in the office of Chairman Lorenzo Fertitta. "Brock's a big guy, an exciting wrestler with his takedowns.

"I want to see this fight myself. Overall, I'm a different fighter. A striker, athletic, big. These are going to be two big trucks going at it on a collision course."

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Overeem, 31, is a former K-1 kickboxing champion too, He most recently defended his Strikeforce belt in June with a unanimous decision over takedown specialist Fabrio Werdum, who had previously defeated Fedor Emelianenko.
Lesnar has been out of action since losing his UFC heavyweight belt to Cain Velasquez in October at Anaheim's Honda Center, suffering a return episode of the intestinal ailment diverticulitis.

The Dec. 30 winner will be first in line to fight the winner of a Nov. 12 fight between Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos.

"This is the fight the fans want," UFC President Dana White said. "Both of these guys are monsters. Can Lesnar take Overeem down?"

Fertitta said the Strikeforce belt won't be part of the promotion. The UFC has purchased Strikeforce.

"Our thinking when we bought Strikeforce was to give fans the fights they want," Fertitta said. "Obviously, Alistair's one of the best heavyweights in the world, but he also has that 'it' factor -- the tremendous look, he's huge. It's a star factor."

Overeem said he's exploring setting up training headquarters in Los Angeles.

OMG! Cannot wait! :woot:

Yup love it 2011 finishes off with one of the biggest fights of the year.

And it only gets better I reckon Overeem is gonna continue improve with his take down defense and will just batter brock with his kick boxing and striking. Brock no doubt will have to work on striking and knees and leg kicks if he wants to stand a chance.

And the best part is the winner takes on JDS or Cain, guess there could be a no2 contender match also :)

Ben Henderson Vs. Clay Guida Set For 'UFC On FOX 1'

For no1 contendership :)

Seems UFC making sure Fox getting the fights we want... they just need to fold strikeforce and get us all those dream matchups cos its already happening !

Nice, nice, nice. That's 2 hooooge fights right there. Off the bat, I'll go with Brock and Henderson for the wins. Be interesting to see what shape Brock comes back in and if he's lost any significant size or weight. Dana recently said he's been working on a farm all summer recovering.

I'm a big fan of Guida, but Henderson has looked damn impressive. He's hard as hell to submit, every bit as quick as Guida has good wrestling and hits a bit harder I think.

i am a huge rampage jackson fan, but there is no way he is top 5 any more in his weight class, never mind a title contender.

from his last 7 fights, 6 of them have went to decision and he lost two of them and many say he should have drawn/lost to machida as well.

has he changed his fighting style, became more defensive?

he used to be exciting, but i don't think his heart is in it any more.

jon jones is going to end up retiring him.

willing to bet on it.

Rampage still has good combinations and of course he has the power to hurt anyone, but his foot speed seems so slow in his last few fights. I think Bones is going to punchbag him.

im not looking forward to it at all.

Rampage is outclassed on everything. i dont know why this match up has been made.

he will retire after the fight.
