***The Official Forza Motorsport 3 Thread***

Seems my post got deleted before as I mentioned two stores that only sell games or dvd's. If you do a search on google for Forza 3 le edition for £39.99 you'll find it. Saved me £15 :D

Nice find mate, just placed my pre-order for this, nice to be getting the limited edition at the price of the standard one :D

3 weeks, it'd better do, should e with you by a week monday if you get it sent off quickly! :)

It's well on it's way to Germany. When I dropped it off at Mail Boxes Inc who do collections for UPS in Central London, the bloke told me it was a broken xbox before I barely opened my mouth :D

EEK ... I got that while playing the demo, my old faithful 20gb model was out of warranty, and I couldn't be without one at launch, so a new elite has replaced it
At least I have 100gb more HDD space to play with now ;)

Roll on release, so looking forward to this game.
LE has been on order since last month :D

Funny you say that because mine conked out during a demo, well it was NFS: Shift so the xbox probably drew the line there :p

Hmm, not sure what to do now, just got my MS wireless wheel, given it a go (~10 laps each in the mini, evo and GT3), and it's terrible.

The pedals are ridiculously light and constantly feel in danger of sliding away from under my feet, they can't go backwards cause of my sub, but side to side they do move, that hole where your heels would go is horrid, although I see in Mr Latte's post that he's got something to block/fill it? And just to top it off the brake pedal has no tension/strength at all, much like my ancient sidewinder wheel, and equally as useless.

Onto the wheel itself, the curved design sits a bit high on my table (personal preference really), the paddles are horrible, no tactile feel at all to register that it's actually changed gear, and not a fan of the rubbery covering, although better than plastic I guess.

Force Feedback wise, not sure if it's the Forza 3 demo or the wheel itself, but apart from a 'too strong' centreing spring there isn't a huge amount of good/useful feedback there, a bit when you understeer which is good but very little when you oversteer which isn't so good.

For ~£70 this is truly terrible, the steering is marginally better than a pad but offset by the appaling brake pedal making that far harder to modulate properly (no abs), after being kinda excited as I left work to try it I'm now seriously considering sending it back, and Forza 3 isn't good enough with the pad to bother with imo.

Be interesting to try the Fanatec wheel, but two problems, it costs far far too much, and heard many stories of terrible Fanatec quality/customer service to actually order anything from them...

Nice helpful post...

How should I 'secure' the pedals then, bolt them to the floor? nails maybe slightly more practical I guess, dunno what my landlord would think but hey.

Even if the pedals were secure, the hole in them would be a major annoyance still, and the brake pedal would be just as crap...

And that doesn't even touch on the Paddles, overall quality of the wheel (lovely free play on the shaft for the wheel) and FF (although that's at least partially Forza).

If MS are going to limit people to either this wheel (which is hardly cheap) and the Fanatec wheel (which might actually be good but is silly expensive) they might've put a bit of effort into making a good wheel, the MS Sidewinder FF wheel from way back when is a better wheel/pedal set than this.

But, does this place despatch so I can have it the day before release like my current pre-order ? if so I will change it :)

SKILL

Cant agree with your comments that the official wheel is as you put it, crap.
Actually if you try an find a better wheel for the money your going to have a hard time doing so. The DFGT for PS3 or PC wouldnt be far from the quality or price of this and everything else is much more expensive.

The X360 wheel is great value and gives good performance for its price.
Maybe you have been a bit too quick to judge it. Yes its not brillant but gees for about £60 your laughing. Aparently the Fanatec Turbo S has a $100 of its price going to MS/Porsche for the licensce, thats a lot but remember this is a limited edition product aparently.

Also take into account the G27 is listed at over £300 and I think it is due out in the next week or two. Yet again its not X360 compatible.
Put that into perspective against the Turbo S and compare each brands features, the Fanatec PWTS wins hands down.

As for Fanatec service, I can only report on my own experience and ive never had any reason to complain too much. My GT3RS arrived faulty but was replaced within two weeks with my shipping costs refunded and "Armin" the guy that seems to do with service has always replied back to my emails within a day or so.
I would say Fanatecs issues are not in its service but more its lack of staff regards updating orders/processing and some of the internet stuff needs updated etc. Yes those areas could be criticised.

I just ordered the Fanatc 911 Turbo Wheel to replace both my G25 and Xbox wheel. Didn't got for the clubsport version as everybody seems happy with the standard pedals so will see how I get on with them.

I probably was too quick to judge it, and crap is probably a bit harsh,

Not sure how the DFGT compares having never used one, but all reviews I read rated the actual wheel as good as (if not better than) the G25 one, which puts it massively ahead of the MS wheel straight away, although I've also heard the pedals on the DFGT lack tension in the brake much like the MS wheel

Comparing it against the G25, I paid £165 ish for mine over a year ago, but even at that price I think you actually get a quality representative of the price, with the MS wheel I don't think that, and most of it is minor stuff I admit but collectively.

Didn't know the Fanatec had such large licencing costs, and yes from what I've heard the majority of the problems are with the lack of staff, but I've been enough to be put off not just at the cost of the wheel but by the current service levels, but willing to give them a chance if/when they hire more staff to cope better with the demand (although if I upgrade from my G25 it'll either be because it's broken or I've decided to go mad and get a Frex or something :p)

Gonna give it some more time, but still feeling like I'll return it, I just don't enjoy using the wheel at all

Mr Latte, just out of interest how would you rate the G25 against the current equivelant high end Fanatec products you have tested?

Stu

Youll have to wait to the comparison. ;)
Its hard to take onboard all factors because you have the X360 issue, you have the higher costs issue and then youve got the current G25 prices.
Im fully aware that someone could buy a X360 wheel and a G25 for less than a Fanatec solution but that has drawbacks too. The review will take onboard these situations for various peoples requirements.

On performance the Fanatec models do have specific benifits and extra features but then again the G25 shifter and pedals offer a better all round package for the current prices. Its also hard though to enjoy the G25 level of performance/build and then go down to say the X360 official wheels lower quality and performance. One way to look at the Fanatec Turbo S is that its like buying 2xG25's because you get that compativility and quality for both major consoles and PC.

Im trying to get Logitech to send a G27 as well before committing to the wheel comparison. Will see how that goes.

Will be doing the stand comparison first before the release of FM3 and will co-incide with the compeitition. Review again will have lots of photos, trying each of the wheels on each stand. Pheew lots of work in that.
