Argh my proximity sensor's gone AWOL. It won't turn the screen off when in call, and AndroSensor doesn't detect any change in input when I cover it with my fingers. Very annoying. Hope this is just software and I can fix it somehow...

EDIT: Hmm, seems to be a ROM issue. Fixed by flashing Codename Android ROM.

Anyone know why Swype would be using a fair amount of data?

I downloaded the app using the link in the XDA forum last week. In that time, the data monitor on the phone suggests that Swype has used about 50MB of data. Bit confused as to why it would be using that amount??

There is an option in the setting where it allows it connect to the Swype server, make sure that is off.

Also don't try and download any new languages, as that doesn't work and it will keep trying to download it.

Another thing you can do, is go into "Data usage" and "restrict background data" on Swype.

Thanks for the response. As it was eating my data, I removed it and gone back to the stock keyboard.

Hopefully the "official" version will be released fairly soon and I'll try that.

Most people may already have come across this but for those that haven't there is a windows application which basically performs all of the rooting, recovery installing operations for you. Its called the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit and can be found here.

I just used it to recover my Nexus back to the stock image from Google after I found I couldn't install any custom roms when whole disk encryption was enabled.

I recently read about different GN versions such as yakjuxw (from Samsung) and yakju (from Google).

I have no idea what mine was/is because I've compiled and installed my own version of ICS so I can't check the usual way.

Anyone know if the UK GNs are a specific version or is it just random which one we get?

In the UK we should all have the yakju version (GSM).

Do you mean all GSM are yakju hence why UK would be yakju?

The yakju version is GSM, mysid is the CDMA/LTE version. These are updated by Google and are official Google builds. Most GNs are one of these and yakju is what we have here in the UK. There are also versions with regional differences so there’s yakjuxw and other yakju variants which have been signed by Samsung.

My newest mod.

Softkeys removed and replaced with quick controls

Rumours circulating that Google to launch Android 5.0 (Jelly Bean) in Q2 2012 with the idea of either a stand-alone 5.0 or combining 5.0 with Win 8.0 in the same tablet PC. Android 5.0 is expected to be optimised for tablets and will integrate Chrome more closely to push dual OS. Taiwanese sources make comments about 4.0 adoption being slow:

BS to be honest, don't really trust the site, with quotes like..... "However, since Android 4.0 did not perform as well as expected, several of Google's downstream partners are turning conservative about Android 5.0."
