am uploading as I type

Been comparing s2 ICS with G Nexus ICS today with mate's handset and s2 ICS is definitely a lot smoother, the better hardware spec definitely comes to help here.

I'll be using pure ICS on the s3 for sure!

Same experience with an ICS ROM on my Note vs my Galaxy Nexus.

I've just bought Dead Space which runs really well on the Note so I'll test that with the Nexus at some point too, GTA III was much worse.

have you guys updated to the new market yet?

Very smooth.

Has anyone stopped to consider that the GS2 is quicker because it has less to do? Less to draw, less to animate? Common sense really. Anything different is down to software optimisations.

TBF, you can't compare one mobile that has a custom ROM, which implements tweaks/mods etc. to improve speed and smoothness to another mobile, which is on a stock ROM.

Only fair way to test speed/smoothness of the mobiles overall, is to have pure stock android ICS ROM on the GS 2 as well, with the same apps being used, go launcher (which I presume mrk was using) is probably faster than stock ICS launcher etc.

Obviously in demanding games the GS 2 will be smoother due to the lower res screen and the more powerful GPU.

Personally I would much rather have a superior screen and sacrifice a wee bit of speed/smoothness overall though :p

^^ I didn't compare launcher speeds as I know different launchers vary in performance, I said scrolling various lists and general things.

Yes... so... mrk has a Gnex that is full of apps and info. His mate has an S2 which has nothing on. The S2 is faster and smoother... because it's empty and fresh?

Wow, this is hard work!

As mentioend below your post, I have an S2 full of apps, mate has a brand new Nexus.

My S2 is smoother.

Usually kernels are what improve performance but since there are no kernel sources out for ICS on the S2 we are using stock based (but rooted) kernels so it's not a case of tweaks or mods because devs can't implement them until Samsung release sources :p

BoomAM, yes I did consider that but then I also considered something more important, that the GPU draws the UI anyway regardless of screen size. It's like when you play a 1080p video and it plays butter smooth regardless of phone because it's hardware accelerated. As long as there's GPU acceleration then it's all fine regardless of resolution usually.
