*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

Installed Kaos last night. Laying in bed and though I fancy a new rom. What I liked was I downloaded straight to the 7 and then installed it. So different to when I rooted and flashed my HTC Magic some years back.

Oh and Mila Kunis makes for great wallpaper.

It is pretty easy. Get the Nexus toolkit off XDA. The hardest part is getting the adb drivers installed but the toolkit provides 3 seperate ways of doing it which is very helpful.

When I first attempted to root my Nexus 7, it couldn't install the ADB drivers automatically. But the manual install was pretty straightfoward.

As you say, it's very helpful :)

Well I bought one and finally got it rooted, had to dick around with drivers for a while but got there eventually!

Going to spend the next couple of hours playing around with it but please feel free to recommend me some rooted goodies!

Yeah the drivers, from my experience (having rooted 8 Android devices) are always the worst part.

Rooted goodies - AdAway and MyBackupRoot are two I use quite a lot.

Stickmount if you want to use external storage, you'll need a microusb to usb adaptor though as well.

Got one of these today, really nice bit of kit.

Thought I would throw a custom ROM on before I start installing too much onto it and to get the homescreen in landscape.

I tried the Kaos 3.7.2 ROM as most recommended it but hardly anything seems to work with it. The Custom themes, Google earth, iplayer etc I installed the flash apk and no joy.

I thought I would use the option in the root toolkit to go back to stock but then it prompts you to browse to Rom file ..

I think ill try the XenonHD rom.

If anyones nexus is lagging - go to google currents > settings > un-check "background sync"

Might have been posted before, if so sorry but worth a bump as the lag was causing me no end of grief!

If anyone is using the Apex Launcher...DO NOT UPDATE!!! It constantly crashes. No amount of wiping caches from your recovery console will fix it.

My phone auto updated this morning on my way to work...and it just caused no end of problems. I had to reinstall my Resurrection Remix ROM to allow it to install new launchers. It is now using the Nova Launcher. I will have to make sure the same doesn't happen to my Nexus 7 when I get home from work tonight.

If you look on the Google Play Store, there is no end of 1 star reviews from people who have updated.

Let's hope a fix comes out real soon.

so ive still got about £7 of gogole credit left from the orginal £15 does anyone know if these expires? Or does it all need to be spent by a certain time?

From the email I got after I purchased mine

Google Play credit is valid only on Google Play, subject to full terms and conditions. £15.00 credit can be used only for purchases with a combined cost of £15.00 or less. The £15.00 credit can be used for purchases on Google Play until 30 June 2013.
