**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

Absolutely loving the Pixel 2 experience. The camera has really shone and glad I got it for the holidays as managed to snap some great family time memories. As has been mentioned a few times on the thread most people who receive the images are impressed/flattered by the image of them or the shot taken. It isn't perfect nor will it replace my camera gear but it is great to snap memories and make me want to shoot more. I think I shot more with the Pixel in a short space of time than any other smartphone as the images can be easily printed or converted to a photobook and keep a decent quality.

The battery on the smaller device which I was worried about wasn't a factor either. I hammered the camera and video and replied to various messages and searched for the sales and had enough juice at the end of the day. I wouldn't mind the XL battery to get me through a another half day but will just charge nightly as before but not have to worry will it get me through the day.

The screen has been crisp and size perfect.

My only negative so far is no face detection in camera mode and the video is a bit shocking when compared to the photo side. The video has a slight judder to it and even when shooting 4k and beaming to my TV it wasn't as impressive as I thought it would be. It doesn't shift in auto mode to the lighting of the scene and focus can be a bit iffy. The OIS is pretty decent though but will tinker more with video but hoping it improves over time with a software update.

I got a cheap TPU screen protector but it has peeled off as touching the case edging so need to order something that allows a case. Any recommendations? Also need to order another charger and some cables. I have seen a few recommendation so will look them up.

I work in a store so we had them to hand out or order in....ordering was done via DPD next day delivery.

On your rant, I am reminded of a Google philosophy I once read: they like to skate to where the puck is going, not where it has been. Dangling wires that need to be tucked in just seems so yesterday. Wireless or near wireless seems the way to go.

Oh dear...
Yet they made such a song and dance about the inclusion of one last year?
They are just following the puck that apple hit last year I'm afraid

Has anyone had issues with contacting EE today? I cant successfully log into my EE and also i tried calling 150 and it states they are working on the issue. This has been all day!

Argh, dropped my panda 2XL on my Mac keyboard and it's chipped a bit of paint off the top corner. Annoying. Stupid sharp-edged metal keyboard!

The USB-C dongle is garbage, just doesn't seem to work consistently with headphones.

Looks like I'm forced to buy some bluetooth headphones. Any recommendations?

I have got some Anker ones and they are awesome! Cheap as well. unless you are a serious audiophile you don't need to spend much cash to get great sound.

Went into CPW last night to look again at the Pixel 2, the recent price drops and general good impressions on here have pushed this back into focus as a replacement for my (almost now unusable since 8.0 update) N5X. My impression of it was the same as the first time I looked at it, it's just a bit of an underwhelming phone to look at. Its about the same size as the N5X with a smaller screen. I am really torn, there are much nicer looking phones out there with similar specs, but I enjoy the raw android experience (my misses just bought an S8 and the software experience is pretty poor). I like the look of the 1+5T, the battery is great, but the camera and software seem a bit meh. Reading through the 1+5t thread the general feeling of owners seems luke warm, whereas the Pixel seems very well received. For the guys with the Pixel 2 does the polished experience override the rather vanilla exterior ?

I've owned smaller phones in the past but went for the 2 XL over the 2 (which I bought then returned) this time because it's so much nicer looking. You get used to the size very quickly although the price is a bit of a bummer.

The 2XL is good enough that I don't mind the various issues with it. The battery, software and camera experience is that good.

I appreciate these might be a little above what you were planning to spend but I got the Apple AirPods for Christmas for my 2XL and they have been excellent so far. I said I'd report back on my findings so here I am.
With the addition of the AirPods for GA app on the Play Store they work just as they would with an iPhone - the only feature that doesn't work is the automatic pause when you remove one of the buds from your ear but I'm not even sure I'd want this. They play/pause music and launch Google Assistant without a hitch. I should point out that I also have a MacBook so I am getting a little more value out of them that way, if I didn't have it I couldn't in all honesty declare I'd still have got them but they are great and I do like the 'no wires' aspect which is what put me off the pixel buds or even the Jaybirds, if I want wireless earphones they are going to be wireless.

Glad you like your Airpods. Some people disagree with your assessment of them, even though they offer the excellent Google Assistant feature. But I must disagree that the GA feature can ever be as good natively as on my Pixel Buds. I have had lots of compliments on the look of the Pixel Buds. The "wire" is no factor to me and if it helps to create a little more stability when I do exercise/run with them, which I expect they do, together with the ear loop, even better. The rear wire is virtually hidden behind the head and below the clothing line.

Pixel Buds. Lots of comments on the Pixel Buds section of Overclockers within Mobile Phones and Tablets section. They have a choice of three colours, but the ones I chose (Clearly White which match my Penguin/Panda 2 XL) are currently out of stock. The other two colour choices are Black and Somewhat Blue, which I believe are available within a few days of ordering on the Google Play Store.

Honestly these have got such mediocre to bad reviews.

You sound like a paid advocate so much of the time.
