**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

I hammered the P2 yesterday more than normal to see how my SOT would be and got just over 6 hours and have about 10% battery left. Pretty impressed with that!

I did want the XL 2 for an even better battery but reckon will pass the P2 down to the OH later in the year and grab the latest Pixel at the time.

My 2 XL has been charging really slowly recently. Put it on charge this morning at 13%, came back after 20 mins and it was on 17% and reckoned it was 'charging rapidly' with an estimated time to charge of 5 hours!

My Pixel 2 XL will be arriving today. Got a Speigen case and a Tempered glass screen protector on order.

I use the Anker Sound Surge and they are fantastic for the money. less than 20 quid they have great sound, they are very light and last for ages on a single charge. Sweatproof as well so will be good for the gym.

You're not alone! I posted a while back about this and it's probably the one 'flaw' that has annoyed me the most. I can live with the blue shift and colours have been fixed but this is just taking the mick. What I did notice is that when I removed mine (it reached 21% in 45 mins from 4%!) it did stay on 21 for a good 3 hours or so. The 2XL quick charging is one of the main reasons I bought it over other devices with wireless charging but seemingly it doesn't even do that 90% of the time.

Just for comparison on the normal Pixel 2. My phone was dead this morning and put on charge at 6.30 and by 7.50 it was 100% charged which to me was a surprise.

There is the odd % going here and there over night which I need to get to the bottom off. Can the battery saver mode be put on a timer as it seems it is just on or off.

Good price.

But you can also get one with unlimited mins and text +1gb data for around £500 total. In essence getting 2 years airtime and some data for free and cost spread over 2 years. The deal is at mobiles.co.uk

With the charging issue of the 2XL, that phone just has too many problems imo. Saving grace being the camera, battery life and stock OS.

This is the deal I got it on. Made it a no brainer as spread the cost and got to enjoy the camera over the holidays without too much outlay. Was going to get the phone offline anyway.

The XL2 battery seems better but that is only feature I would have wanted on the P2 a bigger battery from the 2700. I still get good SOT and it lasts all day but sometimes nice to not have to charge it nightly.

Charging issue?

You really don't see the few posts above, couldn't be bothered to scroll up some and posted that instead? Okay... yes, 'charging issue'. It doesn't charge as fast as it really should. Some think Google limited intentionally to give the battery better life. Which is worse, if Google have done this, or Apple slowing devices as the battery deteriorates?

For those with the issue, is this using everything from the box? I found quite different results from different hardware that all have the same specs.

Isn't the Pixel 2 XL capped at around 10 watts. It ships with a 18w charger but reaches a maximum of 15w which itself is capped within a few minutes to 10w. Once it reaches 65% it drops even further.

Yes Andy, the anecdote that I provided (4-21% in 45mins) was with the supplied charger and cable. Funny enough the one piece of hardware that does charge it quickly is my Macbook Pro charger.
All in all it's not a major problem (although it is my biggest peeve) as I tend to keep my phone between 50-80% charge on a constant basis but in those moments when you've had a busy day out on site or something and you need a quick top up before you go out of an evening I'm just not getting that unfortunately.

I totally agree. It was the only 'scandal' that actually concerned me. In reality, I've been fine. I slow charge overnight and very rarely need to top up the next day at all. In fact, on occasion I go two days and still tend to charge before I get below about 30%.

The XL2 battery sounds impressive @AndyCr15

Only the size of the handset put me off when testing both Pixels. I am happy with the P2 and hoping the smaller P3 is packed with a larger battery and bigger screen in the same size.

Will stick to native Google phones as the software is so fluid and liking the tight integration and software enhancements to things like the camera.

Received my replacement XL 2 today. Screen is a lot better than the other one in terms of the blue tint. The screen also seems to be brighter and have whiter whites as well. Sorry I offended all you Google fan boys by daring to question the blue shift.

On another note - If your blue shift is bad send it back. Seems to be a lottery whether you get a decent one or not. Don't settle for 'It'll do' when you're paying out £700 on a phone.

agreed, and i'd consider myself to be a some what heavy user. have constant on screen. constant listening to background music, things that take tiny amounts of battery but i thought would build up.

i can easily be 30% by bed time. it confuses my brain as it still wants to charge in the afternoon if near a charger "just in case", but i never need to. i've actually put chargers away now due to not needing them so handy

Caved and picked up a 2XL from CPW earlier on. Didn't have any White til the 10th so went with the Black, absolutely stunning phone!! So so happy with it, no more skinned Android for me....ever!! Gave me £280 trade-in for my u11 which I was happy wnough with (would prob clear 300 after postage on forums). I see what they mean by the blue shift now, but it's fine head-on so no biggy :)

I can always get a class white shell case for it, time to look through this thread and find one :D

People are still buying the U11 for £400 used BIN (sold 2 in the space of a month) but 280 is decent considering no hassle
