**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

Does anyone have a Pixel 2 and an Audi? I have an Audi A4 (B9) and a Pixel 2 and every now and then, the phone asks me if I would like to connect to Audi MMI xxxx. It's almost as if the phone and/or car has forgotten that they've already been paired.

Just an update on this incase anyone else experiences the same issue, it looks like this is down to Android Auto (still early days to say this is definitely the case).

It appears Android Auto connects your device to the car's Bluetooth in the background as all the telephony functions to the car still go over BT and not USB. Therefore it creates a sort of conflict if you've also manually paired your phone via Bluetooth.

I'm guessing the Bluetooth connection created by Android Auto is a "silent" connection, similar to how an Android Wear device connects to your phone. The devices are connected but you wouldn't know it by looking at the Bluetooth icon in the status bar. Before I got into the car this morning I unpaired the Bluetooth connection to the car through the phone's settings but the phone still paired through Bluetooth.

I'm still having bluetooth problems with one of my bluetooth speakers (annoyingly, the only one I want to use day to day) with what sound like bursts of static / white noise at regular intervals, and random dropouts.

Doesn't happen on any other phone or tablet I own, just the P2XL, yet because it works fine on another speaker, I'm not sure I can justify RMAing it. Either way, I still think the BT on this phone isn't the best.

If you didn't get your free Home Mini promo code, speak to Google. Mine was never sent out, so I went on live chat to them today and the operator couldn't generate a code manually. He says their specialist team is going to generate one and send it to me by the end of the week. Clearly something has gone a bit wrong with their system.

Hi mate, did you buy direct from google?

I raised it yesterday morning and they emailed me a code manually yesterday - ordered yesterday at 4pm and arrived today at lunchtime. Good service!

Just picked up the Pixel 2 cheap via one of the online retailer sales.

Can't believe how fast this phone is.

However there's an issue that if you touch to focus in a dimly lit room at certain points the camera fails to focus. I keep going back to the same point after turning the camera away but it still remains out of focus.

Anyone else having these issues? Other than that the camera seems to be working fine. However my Mate 10 doesn't have the same issue in the same scenario.

My fingerprint reader has been shockingly bad today. It's failed to recognise my fingerprint at least different intervals now today. Cleaning it seems to help for a bit, but it's coming back.

I still like this phone but I'm starting to think its a pretty flawed package overall, what with the bluetooth problem i'm having, the fingerprint reader, there are a few other things I've noticed since I've gone from my S7 is that apps seem to crash slightly more often than they did on that phone (esp facebook)

Regarding the screen, although the blue tint thing is something I've stopped noticing, the screens performance in low light is very poor I feel, with blacks smudging and loss of detail, and the auto-brightness is a joke at low light, it just can't make up its mind what brightness it wants to be at. I've seen the AOD not work at the odd random time.

I think I may have seen the same issue as you stoosh with the camera, not to mention, sometimes when taking a portrait shot, if I then go to try and view the photo from the viewfinder, it doesn't always load the picture, and I do notice quite bad lens flare in certain scenarios.

None of this is enough to make me chop it in as its otherwise quite a lovely thing to use when it's working well, but the flaws are adding up, and if the next one is an LG this experience is enough to make me probably avoid on balance.

Hello guys, my pixel 2 XL came today. Finished setting it all up and took a few photos and can't help but notice the camera is not as good as the camera on my old S6.

Is there some settings I need to change? I am Struggling to get a focused picture with out being completely still (as is trying not to move a single muscle). My S6 got perfect focused pics even when I was moving.

Cheers

Sounds faulty tbh. No real settings to adjust, it should take great shots out of the box.

Is the lens clean?

I love the majority of the features on the device, and its probably the best overall device I've owned. However, there are two glaring issues I'm still struggling with.

  • Black smearing - it's really, really distracting. I'm getting black UI elements smearing across the screen, even on high brightness.
  • Black crush - watching anything at night is impossible. Anything remotely dark on the screen just becomes black.

Post a few examples?

Fingerprint reader on mine has been beyond hopeless today. I’ve had to clean it with isopropyl alcohol and re-add my prints. Seems a bit better now, but this is the first phone I’ve ever had to go to those measures to get it working as it should.

The reader on my iPad Pro is in another league to this, and while the Samsung S7 was consistently slower and not as good, it didn’t have as many failures as this.

Unfortunately, I find myself slowly going off the phone at the minute.

RMA and get a new one if the fingerprint isn't working properly instead of getting increasingly annoyed...
