**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

64GB Pixel 2 XL from CPW for £629.00

I haven't been following this thread as I bought a Pixel XL due to bugs and issues with the Pixel 2 XL. Question is, is it worth the upgrade at that price? Have the bugs been sorted?

Would appreciate some user opinions.

Coming from a note 8 I love the phone. The screen isn't as good but it's certainly not bad and if it hadn't been for all the media/complaints I'd certainly not have noticed. I only got mine last week so maybe the later ones have been improved. I love the camera and the battery is awesome and it's so quick . No regrets here.

Feb update is a little borked, but on the whole it's good.

Got a charging issue as well at the moment, but yet to see if it's just my phone or the whole sub 20 degrees C fiasco

Bit the bullet and bought one today. Having being disappointed with OnePlus 5T's camera and sent it back.
I bought a XL 64GB from CW for £629. Last one in the shop too. The camera is amazing and I have only took inside pictures of my daughters as of yet. Well impressed. My eldest loves the slowmo. Portrait mode is very impressive.
The rest of the phone is good too, I have the blue shift on the screen but I only saw it because I was looking for it.
Battery is taking ages to charge even though it says Charging rapidly. But I think that's bug from what I've read.
A great upgrade from my Nexus 5 :D Very happy.

EDIT*** Info from IMEI
Manufacture date: November 21, 2017
Shipped from factory: November 22, 2017
Estimated phone age: 3 month(s) 6 day(s)

Bear in mind it doesn't really charge when the screen is on. It's pretty quick with the screen off though.

Mine arrived today as well, same spec. I don't know what I'm looking for with the blue shift so I'm not looking into it any further as it looks fine....

Haven't even had to charge mine yet though, so will find out tonight if it has charging issues.

Really happy to find that my Cambridge Audio DacMagic XS works with the phone though, so if I do want to listen to earphones I won't have to use this questionable dongle.

Why the hell are all the accessories for the black phone white though? Really annoyed me that when unboxing.

Finally got to test my Pixel 2 XL camera in a cool location today. Still in shock it out shot my SLR.

Thank you. I will try it with the screen off. I was setting it up at the time.

Great photo @winstainforth :)
I edited my post above with the build date etc from the IMEI for anyone interested.

Ok, now I know what the blue shift is, can't say it's that big of a deal.

What's more jarring is the lagginess when scrolling on low brightness. That black smudging effect that's going on. Can't say I'm impressed with that.

It's the biggest killer for me. I can barely read a webpage at times

Just picked up the P2 XL - coming from an iPhone 6s it's obviously a massive upgrade for me, I've been out of the android game since my HTC hero but loving the experience so far. Are there any 'must have' people would recommend coming from an iPhone?

Is the 'blue shift' worse on certain models? Mine seems particularly horrid, to the point where it's annoying me sat on my desk at a slight angle :(

Install this! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.paidtasks ;) I've never really paid for an app in 5 years....

Been in contact with Google over the adapter issue.

One of their replies when I asked why the headphone jack was dumped:

The Pixel 2 still comes with a headphone jack, but we have moved to USB-C, a standard that is becoming commonplace in the best phones and laptops today. As we move towards a bezel-less screen, we needed to remove the old 3.5mm jack so we decided to do that now rather than later."

Moving over to USB-C digital audio provides many benefits like:

  • Higher-quality audio,
  • A slimmer device,
  • More possibilities with accessories like noise cancelling headphones that are powered by your phone, allowing for slimmer headphones and one less set of batteries you'll need to replace.
Samsung says differently, I've seen slimmer phones with the jack still also. I call it copying Apple.

Anyhow still no closer to getting anything sorted with it, But I did manage to catch a screenshot when it decided it wanted to play through the speakers

This leads me to believe that the device is getting confused about what is being plugged into it.
