**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

Looking into getting one of these for my wife as she needs a new phone with good camera. Am I right to say that screen in pixel 2 is better than XL, also made by Samsung so less likely to break ? Also I understand that phone comes with 2 year warranty, whats Google's warranty service like....easy to deal with them ?
Any input would be greatly appreciated

I've got the XL and have used a standard Pixel 2.

The standard one I believe is made by HTC not Samsung.

I reckon the screen on the standard 2 is slightly higher quality to look at IMO, but this is not enough to make up for the larger screen IF someone wants a larger screened device. The screen on the 2XL is fine in all honesty. Not the best, but fine. The 2XL is a much better looking and more modern device apart from that though.

Isn't natural sRGB? I think it is.

Honestly I have no idea. I'm currently using the boosted setting at the moment (after the comment above). Photos look fine, and the UI still looks a little more washed out than I'm used to (having used saturated since day 1 and coming from an S7 Edge).

Thank for that. As she currently has iPhone 5s which is small screen and said that she prefers smaller phones I will go for standard pixel 2. Now just to find a good deal for it

Just got the June security update. The 'Check now' button has worked again. Bet its broke next month hehe :D

Just got the beta update, and now my screen brightness is up at around 75% to get the same screen brightness I was getting before when around 35%. Anyone else got this going on?

Yes but in the first public beta my brightness was messed up, it was far too bright despite setting it at around 10%. Now the brightness settings are akin to Android O (well for me anyway).

Installed here too, nothing bad to report so far.

Regarding the brightness.
The brightness slider behavior slightly changed in this preview: It now changes the brightness logarithmically instead of linearly. Before this preview when it was linear, about 90% of the brightness was controlled by the lower 20% of the left of the slider. The old 50% brightness was almost identical to 100% max brightness, and the old 5% brightness was significantly brighter than 0% brightness. Now, the change in perceptual brightness is now more uniform as you increase or decrease the slider.

The brightness slider position should spend most of its time throughout the day near-max now, but that's fine. The brightness of the panel hasn't changed, just the behavior of the brightness slider, and for the better. Other OEMs have had a logarithmic brightness slider since forever, Google just only now caught up with this standard physics-based implementation.

I was just coming to post that things are a little dimmer at the same slider position but it's performing normally with an adjustment.

Is there a full change log anywhere? I see they added clear all to the multitasking screen.

Well done Google. That's exactly how the brightness slider should operate, not like my oneplus 5 where its hard to modulate low brightness levels.
