**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

Yep the battery drain and bluetooth issues on Oreo are a PITA.

I flashed Nougat back on my Pixel XL and happy days again. I'll upgrade to Oreo once those two issues have been fixed.

How did you flash Nougat back on? Where did you get the file(s) for it? I'd be worried of invalidating my warranty.

TheOracle, have you received your replacement Pixel XL yet? I assume the Bluetooth/car issue is going to be there anyway. I tried the gf's Pixel on my car Bluetooth and it didn't work either. I just wonder is there anything I could do with Google/CPW saying i haven't had my Pixel for a year and it's clearly not performing as it should?

I followed this guide:

Had to unlock bootloader, flash nougat, lock bootloader and that's it, back to nougat with no warranty void.

The standard Pixel 2 is getting a lot of positive feedback on reddit, which is nice as I've ordered one :D

Would love an XL but couldn't stomach a £179 price difference purely for screen size and slightly better battery

Had a play with an 2XL earlier in my local CW. The display is a fair bit larger than my current XL and the phone feels much nicer to hold though the rounded corners of the display will take some getting used to.
I'm relieved the glass curvature is outside of the display, it is definitely not like a Samsung phone.

Well I guess the £800 question is is it a noticeable improvement over the original XL in terms of build quality?

Yes I think it is better. The milled edges are gone and the phone doesn't feel plasticky at all. I was holding the black one though, the white may be different.

I'm not sure why you would assume this. It's not a fault in all Pixels on Oreo.

Of course it is. Every single pixels hardware is identical as is the software. If Bluetooth is a software bug which it is, confirmed by Google, then everyone will have it.

I guarantee your pixel won't work with a 2017 BMW.

There have been two update patches so far and the list of issues is slowly coming down.

In answer to the question regarding my replacement XL. Yep, still got the issue which I was expecting.

Still got an upgrade out of them. Really enjoying the XL despite the Bluetooth though. Tempted just to keep it.

I'm surprised at how quickly I got used to the bigger size and don't think I could go back now.

Confirmed by Google? Not long ago you said they didn't acknowledge it?

Have you considered it's an issue with the cars Bluetooth implementation? Do you have the same issues with other Bluetooth speakers/devices?

I use my Pixel on Oreo with multiple Bluetooth devices (at least 4 or 5) and never had an issue.

It is clearly a fault with SOME pixels and SOME cars however my experience is thus: I have 2 pixels (one regular and one XL) that worked on 2 different cars (BMW and Audi). Since they both got the Oreo update neither pixel works on either car, so in the balance of things that points the finger at the phone rather than the car. Plenty of other cases out there. My BMW already has the latest firmware installed so there's obviously nothing more I can do at that end.

It took literally hundreds of complaints but they finally admitted it about 6 weeks ago.

Two patches so far, my qc35s are working again but no joy in the car.

I'm a bit tired of speaking about it to be honest but I've been a bit like a dog with a bone lol

I still don't get the design of this phone. It's pretty meh, especially the non xl version. Given the price tag, I just can't see how they expect to shift serious numbers. It all feels extremely contrary to the strategy of being a serious (mobile) hardware player.

Yeah it's a tad disappointing although I don't mind the understated nature of the design all that much, substance and no style is very much the order of the day with Google. I'd still rather have a Pixel/XL with stock android than any of the other manufacturers with their bloatware on top. A little bit of imagination wouldn't go amiss I guess!

I still can't see any thin cases (like the Peel) available in the UK, Peel charge $8.99 for delivery on top of the $24.99 purchase price.. bit steep given it won't last as it's stretchy.

I opted for Google Live Case to customise my Pixel 2 XL. I chose the thin case option as I had the same Live Case on my Pixel XL and get compliments on it all the time. I chose a particularly favourite picture I took with my Pixel XL and stored in my Google Photo cloud library. In fact the case is now out for delivery to me even though I will not be getting the phone for another month or so.

What do you think of the Live Case?
