**** The Official Google Pixel 3 Thread ****

I will agree the notch is quite deep and doesn't look good, which is a shame as I think the back and sides look amazing. The glass panel at the top of the back forms round the edges too.

At least you can turn the notch off! I'm still hedging on the XL really, but I want to see what the Note 3 camera specs are, because we all know the Pixel 3 camera will likely win best camera like the Pixel 2 still is...

LOL how many times have I read this, you cannot turn a notch off! It’s a physical hardware feature. You can try and hide it but that will only be partially successful.

Off as in with software to hide it yes. Since it's AMOLED, it's as good as off anyway. The options are all in the settings to do it.

You basically can. I think you can turn the ears black and have the bar run along underneath, can't you? How is that different to not having the ears at all?

That's exactly how it works yeah. Other makers have done it the same way too.

So the end result is effectively (in the pixel 3's case) having a massive top bezel due to the depth of the notch. Seems a very strange workaround to something that it meant to promote higher display to overall footprint ratio.

Yep completely pointless, I see no reason why people have to defend the notch, Would you shove a notch in on your TV screen? I certainly wouldn't!

My god you lot make a big deal out of nothing :p

Plenty of phones have notches. Yeah it's big so you're left with two options. Either it doesn't bother you or you accept it and buy one. No amount of kicking and screaming will change the design.

Or....you buy another phone :p

I guess you end up with, at best something that looked like the 2 XL, at worst something that looked like the 2... in yet people are saying just buy the 3 instead of the 3 XL... which could look like the 3 XL with it's notch hidden... but smaller :)

at least the 3 is symmetrical with matching speakers. The XL is all over the place. Plus, I actually prefer the smaller size.

You'd think with all the resources Google have, they'd actually make a decent flagship phone. HTC used to make nice looking phones.

You wouldn't though. The vertical bezel will be much much taller on the 3xl than the 2xl with it hidden. That's the point.

Except a TV doesn't need a camera and other sensors at the top of the screen like a phone does. Until we have a proper solution then the notch stays. I don't have a problem with the notch at all. On the OP6 it isn't that bad and it gives me a bit more screen real estate. The notch on the 3 XL is ridiculous in size, however.

Maybe the bezels should have stayed instead, There is no reason whatsoever for the notch, the front camera can die for all I care, Anyway no skin off my nose I just won't purchase any phone with a notch. As much as I don't like Samsung at least they are doing it right.

Plus TV's do have cameras & sensors but they don't chop off the screen to put them in.

This is actually a good point, I never ever use the front camera. Why do they assume we are all narcissists. :)
Because the majority of their customers use the front camera? :)

People not using it are in the minority, they would lose money by not putting it there.
