***THE OFFICIAL GTX480/470 END USER REVIEW THREAD***

Right just overclocked my gpu to 800MHz on the core and got these results.

CPU still @ 4GHz, I think you'll agree some good boosts in FPS here.

This will be my last Just Cause 2 benchmarks honest :p

Nice, at that res same settings I get 62 in dark tower so the 480 is a good ~16% faster

Wonder why your ram at the bottom says 1023, do you only have 1GB of ram? Mine says 4095

I've not had time to bench anything yet, my only piece of advice for everyone is if you have a 2nd screen connected and your not using it, TURN IT OFF!!!

The card increases its idle clocks from 51/100 to 400/800 when a 2nd screen is added so your temps will slowly increase until they hit about 70-80c!!

Hopefully the new RivaTuner will be out soon and offer a greater range to down clock on dual screens that MSI/EVGA clocking tools.

@KW
Perhaps Nvidia has partially fixed this issue as I read that it idles at >90c with a second monitor.
Apparently the problem is when you down-clock the card any further you get screen flickering.

Yeah, I've been doing some digging about and found this article...

I know they're comparing to a 285, but on my 280 that I've just pulled out of my system I ran it at clocks of 300/800 (I think, basically as low as the RT sliders would go in 3D) with 2 screens connected and never experienced any flickering. They may do it for compatability but hopefully, with the new RT I can get it back to managable levels!

good to see a stock gtx 480 topping a maxed overclocked 5870 and smoking it when overclocked. i thought "technically" the 5870 was faster lol

Well I have been playing with my 480 all day (looking to be a worthwhile upgrade from a 4870x2), and while it does indeed get quite toasty, the noise is not as bad as has been made out. I'm sure that will change when my second 480 eventually turns up (pull your fingers out OCUK :p ).

Technically the gtx480 is obviously faster but that 5870 oc version is only sitting at 900 core and 4800 memory which is not maxed unless i missed something. These lightning cards can oc much higher than that and you could trust it to run at those clocks no problem. The main problem i see with the gtx4 series cards are that you probably would not trust them to run 24/7 while overclocked but with a 5870 card you would feel pretty comfortable.

i'm talking about ravens 5870 which is at 1000 core so try to read the thread before replying and i guess you dont know why i said "technically", ati fanboys were claiming that.
