***THE OFFICIAL GTX480/470 END USER REVIEW THREAD***

i'm talking about ravens 5870 which is at 1000 core so try to read the thread before replying and i guess you dont know why i said "technically", ati fanboys were claiming that.

I will keep it simple. Check out the post above you and you will see why i posted what i did. If it was meant for raven try quoting or reffering to raven then maybe people will know what you are on about. I could have read the whole topic 10 times over but would still have thought you were on about the article above your post as it did fit the bill.

Also try to come across less agressive than you do as it just makes you look stupid and childish.

This is the last thing i will say on the matter as i agree this thread has went well so far.

yes this thread is fine i only stated the obvious but i had to reply to you since you quoted me, what was above my post wasnt a max overclocked 5870 you should have figured that out. i dont really care how my posting style makes me look this is how i post. its way better than the all these posts full of irony, spam, stupid jokes, annoying smiles etc imo.

fermi looks like it's a fine gpu that scales amazingly with overclocking and temperatures are not bad at all. the major problem is its price.

Not quite right, it's temperatures are too high at idle and load for most.

I'm finding the load temps are quite easily managable and the idle temps, with a single monitor, are fine.

Totally agree, after hearing people go on about how hot they run I'm actually pleasantly surprised at the temps I'm getting.

Even with the 800MHz overclock I was running all last night with a slight voltage bump, the gpu didn't get above 93.

And idle temps (see below) are barely any warmer than my 260 that I'm using as a physX card.

I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about

is that an MSI card you got coupe69? or have you got a hacked MSI Afterburner version handy? please

EDIT: i forgot that i had backed up the Hacked EVGA voltage tuner thing, this will let you take it up to 2 mV, as always i take no respnsibility for the overvolt damage this software could do.

and to Mods im sure this is ok to link to, but if its a problem obviously delete the link and i apoligise in advance,

linky: http://www.box.net/shared/b2noixtllj

the only way i can get it to patch is in safe mode, or from another instal on a dual boot, lucky i have three instals on the go at the mo, so i just boot over into my office image and patch my game instal from there

have fun

Doesn't need to be hacked, works fine on any brand of 4XX series as far as I can tell. To enable to voltage tweak you just go into the settings and check the box. Just download the latest one from Guru3d.com

I've set up a custom fan profile to gradually ramp up and keep temps below 80 if possible. I found the fan at 70% a bit more distracting last night than my old 280 and, as I've mentioned above, I'm not happy with the temps when running 2 screens. I have my TV plugged into the 2nd output as I like to watch downloaded tv, films etc on it and I'm not having it running at nearly 90c when idle in the desktop. Hopefully RT will come out with an update as that allows for much lower clocks than other bits of software do.

@coupe69 - What is the default voltage on your POV? Mine shows up as 987mV in Afterburner...

How come texture fill rate is lower then that of a gtx 260 is it a mistake? Sorry if going off topic

OK, as I'm seriosuly considering the 480 now I thought I would drop these benchmarks in from my 280 gtx OC (factory OC) for comparison. Specs as sig but with cpu at 3.6ghz and on windows 7 64bit. The 280 doesn't perform badly I guess but I'm craving a 480 right now.

Ordering my gigabyte gtx480 next tuesday. When I have it I will post benchmarks for Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Far cry 2, AvP, BC2, L4D2 and TF2 with an i7 920 @ stock. I will also post pics of it if I can find a camera :P

They also have the same for the 480 on there as well. They reach scary temps but the performance boost looks very impressive.
As soon as someone starts releasing these cards with custom coolers and the drivers get better they are going to be pretty sweet I'd say.

Yeah, a link to that review was posted a few days ago. I also posted a link to a custom cooler 480/470 from palit. It has two large fans in the centre of the card. It looks promising. :)

Duran - Thats the review I am looking forward to. :)
