The Official Hearthstone : Heroes of Warcraft Thread

It's not the "most of the time" I'm talking about - the remainder is when the game simply is pay2win... No amount of learning would allow me to beat that Jaraxxus play in that situation... I can learn that Handlocks play the infamous big-taunt wall, so I should save things like silence etc. as long as possible in case I need to break through something heavy near the end... I can learn that they put the taunt wall up easily once their health drops low enough to enable 2x molten giants so I shouldn't drop them too low before I'm prepared... But what can I really learn about them having Jaraxxus? Nothing... They have it, oh well game over for me... Guess I should just concede right at the start in future

Facetiousness aside - I agree that on balance HS is fairly generous towards players who aren't spending any money and that you can generally compete okay even without the rarest cards in the game, but some of the toys that are locked away behind a pay/grind wall are a bit too OP and having them gives you an undeniable advantage even if you are a bad player

Honestly, I think you described the answer to your problem there :)

"so I should save things like silence etc. as long as possible in case I need to break through something heavy near the end"

You need to orientate your strategy around the fact that he will drop jaraxus eventually, so in which case you need to slap his face quickly enough not to allow him to do this. (assuming you know that he has jax in is deck... sometimes the problem with the game is assuming the type of decks your opponent has when infact he doesn't field the very cards which you are strategizing for.

Easier said than done I know and as I mentioned earlier, sometimes youre not gonna be able to do anything, even if you are fielding a "P2W" deck also.

Swings, roundabouts etc :)

Things I would change if I was playing this deck on ladder.

- 1 x Sword of Justice + 1 x Wild Pyro (3rd board clear option against control) or Zombie Chow (for aggro) or even a Coghammer would be better but that's 6 weapons inc. Ashbringer

-2 x Hammer of Wrath + 1 x Loatheb + 1 Healbot/Harrison/Shredder

-1 x Guardian of Kings + 1 Lay on Hands (if you have it).

they seem good changes, my deck was something i threw together this morning to start laddering with.

Just because you couldn't beat it doesn't make it pay2win, if Jaraxxus was a card you could only buy with real money then sure, but it's not.

Most examples of "pay2win" systems are actually "pay or grind for a ridiculously unreasonable amount of time 2 win"... That's how the business model works - the amount of time it would take gradually completing quests every day and slowly collecting gold, packs and dust to get the OP cards is pretty high, so you're tempted to pay money to increase your chances...

That is paying money to win, even if the people you're beating might oneday in the distant future manage to claw themselves back onto a more level playing field...

(there's not anything wrong with the game being pay2win by the way - it's a boon for Blizzard and why 40 packs of digital paper will cost you £39.99... but it's going to sometimes lead to infuriating games won purely due to card quality... If you can't see that then I don't know what to say)

i dont think its P2W but its deffo P2HAVEADVANTAGE

you can play this game completely free, grinding your way to the gold and dust but in reality you can pay to get those things quicker.

a few of the big streamers have proved you can get to legend without spending money.

^^ This, I haven't spent a penny on the game and still manage to win games vs players who probably have spent a small fortune, just because people have better cards doesn't mean they are guaranteed to win.

This is true, and probably on average if you're prepared to just keep playing through the cheesy losses you will and can eventually get there..

So do I, not really anything to do with the above though

just because people have better cards doesn't mean they are guaranteed to win

True, but in some situations a player (good or not) is saved by one silly OP card they paid for (or paid to get access to without grinding)... and those games are frustrating... that's all I'm saying

How do you know they paid for it, they could have put in just as much or more time than you?

I'm not saying it isn't frustrating but doesn't mean they spent money because of it.

Yes, he was lucky that he had Jarraxus in hand when he needed it, and yes he could have been a regular free2play player who happened to get Jarraxus in a pack he grinded quests for, but the most likely scenario is he bought that card

I wouldn't even call Jaraxus that op (given that he is a class legendary), yes he works well in certain decks, but you have to get to turn 9 before he is even an option*. Yes games when a big legendary swings the game can be annoying, but equally it can be annoying when that same legendary is sat unplayable in your hand whilst you get face spanked for 8 turns and die before ever having the chance to play it.

*I know he can get summoned by other means, but in that case his battlecry would not activate.

but you cant really pick and choose which cards you get in packs even.

80-90 dust per pack i believe is the average number (lets calls it 100 for numbers sake)

thats 16 packs of dust just to craft a legendary.

anyways who really cares, you win some you lose some but what matters is that your having fun.

ive bought some packs, not really sure on the numbers but ive more than got my moneys worth.

80-90 seems pretty high, considering rares dust for 20, commons for 5, average would be around 45, unless you get a golden/epic in the pack aswell.

i got my numbers from the first link in google without reading too much into it.

lets call it a round 50 then.

32 packs of dust to craft a legendary.

Yeah, I mainly just do my daily quests every few days and play arena, hope they change the pack from arena soon, all i seem to do is dust everything except legendary's.

I also just get to rank 20 for card back unless I find a pretty fun new deck to try out.

When TGT is released youll get 1 of the 3 packs randomly in arena rewards

joel - tried your deck. Started at level 22 this season so obviously did pants last season and not put a lot of effort into it :)

So far your deck has been absolutely creaming the opposition (including Lodjiks changes ;-)).

So far, love the deck.
