***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

There really is no need, as Dalgrin and his crew release really high quality 'alphas' which are about 95% i would say as good as a finished ROM would ever get anyway.

I'm not that interested in changing from WebOS without a good reason and 'alpha version of android' is not it. While i have tried CM9 on my Galaxy S and Tab, CM9 extends the life of these devices, gives a better user experience and is generally worthwhile to upgrade, not so with the touchpad.

oh it certainly is so! so many decent apps and games that arent available on webos.

There is a lack of apps, but its not barren, there are some very good apps for it and to me webOS feels so much more intuitive than Android (Gingerbread) that I feel no need of changing right now.

Of course once ICS is out and its stable then I will move over, as I want to share the apps with my SGS2.

I mainly browse the web, deal with emails and read ebooks/comics on the touchpad and it does these things all perfectly. The lack of apps compared to Android is striking but I have access to them on my Tab 7 and those that I have, hardly get used.
I have the same usage on android as I do on the touchpad but also use it for music, video and calls.
Just thinking about it now and i've talked myself out of ever putting android on it, that's not good as i do want to tinker with it.

Just been handed one of these by someone who bought it second hand. It appears to be hacked already, running android 2.1 if anyone can identify it for me?

Firmware
v1.02.11-2010.12.17_English

Build
V0.18.ECLAIR.English.R.zmg.20101112.142908

Thing is, they aren't very tech savvy at all and I need to hand it back in a daily working order so they don't have to mess around, I'd prefer a stable android as I can throw all my favourites apps on. Could someone point me at a decent Android rom or shall I restore to stock and walk away? ;)

Cheers. :)

No bug free android yet, the latest is Cyogenmod 3.5 Alpha (google Touchpad Android Rootzwiki). I use this day to day, and don't have too many issues, you get points where a lot of things force close though...

i would do a full restore in WebOS, even that may not solve the issue though as most likely it has been re-partitoned may need to use web os doctor.

get it back to stock, upgrade webos to the lastest version just released a few days ago, then let them use it as stock.

if they aint happy with it at stock, get preware onto it, download a few patches and overclock it. this should help.

then in a few months time when a stable android port is available put that onto it.

if the person who owns it is not tech savvy under no circumstance give them a buggy android version to use. they will simply not understand why stuff keeps flipping out or force closing on them. some apps don't work at all and some have workarounds.

put it back to stock and leave be, they could mess it up if they dont know what they are doing. in a few months time, stick a stable android on it.

if it was for you an experiences user, i would tell you to scrub it and stick alpha 3.5 on it and wait for the ICS alpha.
