***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

Called again and this time it was open. At first I was told they require pictures of the cracks in the casing but I was later told it wasn't necessary for cracks beside the speakers.

It's being picked up by UPS next week and I was told the repair could take 10-12 days.

Thanks.

I tried calling today at 11:15am and an automated message said it was closed. It also said it is HP webos customer support and working hours is 9am to 6pm.

I'll try again later hopefully it'll be open.

Did you need a proof of purchase or just the serial number etc? If the former I'm going to have to do a long search for them!

I've copied a bunch of HTML files to my TouchPad that I want to be able to access offline. They're in a directory under /downloads (as seen from "USB Drive" mode).

How can I access those from the browser? Thanks!

If anyone else wants to know the same, I found a solution on another forum:

  • Use Internalz Pro to locate the file
  • Click on the file
  • Click "Info"
  • Click the Email button at the bottom
  • Open the attachment from the e-mail
  • The page opens in the browser

If you then bookmark this page, the link works every time. However, typing the exact same address into the browser's address bar doesn't work (it just Googles it!), at least for me.

Already sent mine away once for cracks in the case and they are back. Barely use the thing!
Did they replace it with an identical case or was it slightly different?

I read a while back they were using a stronger case which looked slightly different and I presumed it wouldn't crack like the original.

I keep checking my touchpad expecting to find cracks but still nothing and it's been used every day, a few minutes or hours, since I bought it. I'm not Mr Delicate either. Been in it's official case after the first week so I guess it's just potluck that there was some intermittent flaw in the manufacturing process :-/

Last night I noticed a crack beside the charge socket.

I hear the cracked parts of the case scrape when I pick it up now so there is pressure on the weak points just by picking it up.

Mine was also in the case and it is in mint condition except for the cracks in the case.

I sent my Touchpad back just over 2 weeks ago, for the cracks by the speaker. I was sent a refurbished unit instead with the change of the backing to make it more stronger....
I switched it on and guess what, the touchscreen didn't work! I restarted it twice but only the one edge of the screen works..... Reading a few random threads online others have been getting it and recommended getting it replaced.
Have told them about it and they are picking it up again, what a waste of time since it travels to 3 different countries.

Was wondering the screen not responding is a common issue?

Was pretty annoyed they didn't just change the back for me since nothing else was wrong with it.

That's a worrying report. I was thinking about sending mine back for a case replacement next week. But, if they're going to replace the entire unit, I surely won't bother! I take good care of my stuff, and I'm certain a refurbished unit won't be in the same condition as mine.

Has anyone else experienced the same -- receiving a refurbished unit in exchange for their own?

I haven't sent mine back yet. Not sure if I should but I do have cracks. Will check later on today to see if they have got any worse.

Previously HP had arranged for my Touchpad to be picked up 2 months ago but no one came to pick it up.

When I contacted them a couple of weeks ago I was told a new collection had been organised and it would be Wednesday or Thursday but again no one came to pick it up so on the Friday when I phoned and I was told the repair centre was moving to France and it hadn't even been booked for collection but they didn't know when it would be collected.

As you can imagine it was a shock for the UPS guy to have turned up on the Monday to collect it!

My Touchpad hadn't been used for over 2 months but the cracks had become worse over that period. Even the plastic around the USB socket had cracked.

I did consider contacting HP to check on progress but I'm just going to wait for it to be delivered back to me. Hopefully I'll get the same Touchpad back.
