***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

Tempted to overclock this bad boy but i don't want the thing i have spent hours trying to get to turn into a £115 brick.

Are there any real risks doing this or will it just downclock if it overheats/becomes unstable?

There are underclocked from factory , if you like - so only thing is slightly worse battery.
Also. Is Webosdoctor already on the touchpad or do you have to install it? Or is it actually a PC app that you use when the touchpad is connected?

Its a PC app that can reset and repair the touchpad. You can't actually brick one :)

Ok thanks. I may give it a go then.

Anyone on here run into any problems running them at 1.5ghz 24/7? I know it is early days yet though :p

Overall I am pretty satisfied with WebOS. The criminal element is that the browser cannot render a large proportion of web pages. You can't log into hotmail through the web browser for instance. My girlfriend won't touch it because of this bug.

For me it is a race between android being ported and any update HP ship as part of their ongoing development of the operating system.

Agreed. It is nearly there though. There are just some bugs. Some pages with certain flash videos get stuck on a loop of refreshing ( many BBC pages do this). However, the iplayer site works perfectly. Watched the whole qualifying for the F1 on it this afternoon. Fullscreen, great picture, great sound, streamed flawlessly without a single hitch.

Spot on. Needs another 3 months of tweaks and improvements and you have a great tablet.

My top 3 are
1) Fix web browser so it loads nearly all webpages properly (I don't know how much would have to be done here)
2) Fix board's auto capitalisation
3) Don't have a default account on native apps. Allow me to choose upon opening.

To me it seems only the web browser could potentially require a large chunk of effort

is there no way to have 2 accounts in the fb app?

I think you can add accounts under the drop down menu at the top left.

WebOS does not seem to like multiple users so it may be omitted.

On another not does anyone know how to a search for a word on a webpage?

what is it people like so much about webOS? like the actual features people think are neat?

i just can't see what people think is good about it. only one thing i can say is the swipe to close, but other then that it's very dull and missing simple things like a back button, a homescreen, widgets. don't get me wrong it does the 2 jobs it needs to do well but it's not like it's found this smart way to show emails or the internet. i don't think you can even change the main applications at the bottom of the card view page can you?

Yes, you can - just hold down.

I'm not sure what you mean about it missing a back button either.

The homescreen is the app locker in the same way the homescreen on iOS is just the first page of icons.

yeah that is the real killer. WebOS can't browse web properly. The ease of use is similar to IPad though. "just type" is an excellent feature

The trouble is, it can browse the web excellently most of the time. Flash content is great when it works ( most of the time). Been on loads of sites with streaming videos e.t.c that work brilliantly.

They just need to iron out some bugs.

I am not knowledgeable enough to understand why you can't load hotmail in the web browser. That seems like a fundamental problem. Even when you disable flash there are problems with websites.

as I posted earlier,is it possible to search a web page for a word?

edit. I want to add that I don't think WebOS is worth writing off. It just needs some really committed development from HP.

Also they need to install silverlight onto this! I have a zune pass but can't even use the web version because it uses silverlight...

Can't wait for Android to hit, been watching some vids of the CM7 port to the B&N Nook and it runs really well, the Touchpad has much higher specs then the Nook so it should fly!

how do i play videos on this touchpad? i tried to copy some films from my pc to the touchpad but dont know how to play it.
