***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

I have 2 on order,

I really think this might just be a marketing ploy from HP, get the WEBoS devices out there then bring more devices, and get developers working for it!

This would be insane if true. They've just spent £7bill(?) on a software company and this whole TouchPad fire sale is going to run a bill up of 100's of millions of pounds in loss.

Although it is insane, it will get webOS into loads of new hands if they do turn around and be all like actually we're going to continue supporting the current hardware.

Been looking all morning to pick one of these up for ~£100, but it seems most places are either sold out or still have the £350+ prices still showing. Has anyone managed to find a magic source who have them at the fire sale price and still available in the UK?

Really loving my 32gb one, shame no app allows me to play mkv or flv media files.:(

:). Not sure about flv though.

Ive just got mine :D

Paid £89 for it, My friends all think im mental, some asked why I wanted a dead tablet that had been abandoned by its manufacturer, some asked why I didn't just spring the extra £50 for a Hanspree Tegra 2 unit, one asked if it came with any HD-DVD's.

Heres the thing tho, a few years back HP used to make sat navs, and they made the best on the market, the only problem was their software was pathetic, and so because of poor sales they abandoned them too. I bought an Ipaq 314 satnav for £70 after they went out of production, not bad for a piece of hardware that outclassed any tomtom on the market (some of which were £250), I then bided my time, some time later people found a way to run the Windows CE versions of tomtom/igo/etc on it, result.

My £89 is a gamble, one im hoping will pay off.

Anyone know if HP will be doing similar deals with Laptops? are they still going to be in the Laptop Market?

Their 'home' laptops are really bad, get so many in with overheating issues. I gather the business/high end ones are better. Not sure what they are planning with them or their desktop systems, probably just let the stock run out? Although I don't know why they didn't do this with the tablet or only drop them a little to boost sales.

Managed to get a Touchstone charger in the end, not much to say really does exactly what you'd expect! The unit itself is a lot smaller than I expected, and plenty sturdy to have the tablet in portrait or landscape. No idea on charge times etc. yet as I've hardly used it :p.

I also grabbed an official HP case, its more or less exactly the same as the original ipad folio case only the folding tab is velcro secured not magnetic :/ Makes usage a bit more clunky, not sure I'll keep it or give it to my Mum with her 16gb.
