*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

They are missing from everything, people and phone dialler. I've just had another Google, and someone's Desire had set the account on the phone as @googlemail, whereby the actual address was @gmail. This rings a bell (pun) as when I set up the gmail account initially, it was @googlemail, but we then changed to @gmail because it's a neater address. I was very new to this at the time, so I think the phone is still set as @googlemail. I'll have a look when I get home...

Google still has the problem where, if you change the address from googlemail to gmail (or vice versa) then you need to factory reset the phone and set it up with the new address.... PITA :(

If you switch it back to the address you used during inital phone setup then it will solve the problem.... (or reset phone as mentioned above)

Piece of advice dont keep 4000 text messages in 1 thread

It makes the desire very sad indeed :(

Ouch, really?

You don't happen to know a good SMS backup and restoring app do you? I used SMS Backup when I had my first Desire, then restored those on my current desire, but it has annoying duplicates...

Hmmm, there is an app actually called SMS Backup and Restore :p wonder how well it works..

Very well! Its what I use.

I formatted my phone just this week and all the messages returned perfectly!

When I use Handcent there is no slow down with messages and I have a few very large threads (3500 odd)

Yeah it seemed ok till 3800+ then it hit the wall, main problem is backing up or restoring or deleting caused every app to hang and not respond

Sorted now via some poking buttons and praying to the android gods

Not getting on with Opendesire at all think going back to defrost I'll try again once .4 comes out

What problems have you hit

Im considering a change from Deforst to Opendisire also to see how it effects my battery,

Defrost seems a bit poor lately since 2.5a, Ive only ever used defrost or Modaco 2.1 so wanted another comparison,

I think my biggest issue is poor signal at work and it drains the battery trying to find an intermittent signal all the time, APN off doesnt help much

Thanks Richie, just done that and all is now OK, additions and deletions at either end now sync up nicely. I'm a bit bugged by the fact that googlemail will soon become gmail - so will all users who set up googlemail have to reset their phones?

Just got my Wife a Desire as well, and at least had the sense to set it all up as gmail from the start, so only one phone to possibly reset. Is there any way to back up all your apps and settings - apart from gmail? So I can reset and restore... probably hoping for too much here!

Thanks for your help!

They are trying to fix the problem apparently but who knows.... If you change it to gmail, just factory reset the phone and set it up again... Probably best

Because the featurelist is vast and I'm more at home with Cyan ROMs having used them for 18 months on the HTC Magic.

Plus Wysie's contacts app, much better than stock.

Seems that is getting inevitable, Marketplace won't download unless I revert back to gmail on the internet side.

Sod!

I tried OD and get slightly worse battery life than Defrost so I'm quite happy to stay where I am and get a good 40 hours out of moderate use and the OC for the emulators :)
