Yep all Vodafone handsets are unlocked. Most do usually have some kind of Vodafone branding on them though.

Vodafone have done something to the firmware on 99% of the Desire handsets they shipped out, so will have to wait for them before we get the 2.2 update.

Even if your phone is locked XDA will have some way to get it on pretty fast so I wouldn't worry about it

Bought my Desire from Carphone Warehouse on O2. Doesn't have any kinda of network branding at all (not even network start up splash screens) so fingers crossed that mine is eligible!

On a side note, i have a friend who has one that he bought from O2 direct and it has a couple of O2 apps and and O2 startup splash screen - even though his is totally unlocked, i wonder whether it will be eligible for update.... hmmm

Operator branded splash screen means its BRANDED, unlocked sim means nothing.

finally, we can get a fully working froyo rom with the desire.

I would have stayed with stock, but i like bleeding edge os/apps and tweaks and you never know what will happen in the future.

Im sure someone will post when their phone gets updated via its carrier. I expect at least 2-4 weeks delay by tmobile,vodafone and orange at least.

I'm fairly sure that all Carphone Warehouse phones have no network branding (i have mine on O2 for CPW and it is totally unbranded).

Yeah, I'm in the same situation - checked my firmware and it's the unbranded one (405 I believe?)

how do you know if its unbranded firmware? my baseband firmware syas 4.0.5.00.11 at the end?
