*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

so, whats the best value 18 month contract on these atm? Definitely don't want 24 months.

Don't really care about texts or minutes as long as there's ~100 of each, but must have unlimited web.

Thinking t-mobiles £20 a month: £129 for phone, unlimited web, unlimited texts and 300 minutes on an 18 month, anything better?

The £15 a month contract works out cheaper overall but you've got to fork out more for the up front

Got my Desire yesterday, very impressed with it so far although my does seem to exhibit the pinkish tink which can be quite annoying. Going to see about getting it replaced if this is ineed a known fault.

Only had a chance to install a few useful apps, Task Manager, Last FM and Co-pilot but they all seem to work fast and without any major problems.

Saw this on a forum would explain why there seems to be so little ram left on my phone, this was from a Nexus One thread.

Google has confirmed there is a limitation in the current Android 2.1 kernel letting android OS use only ~230mb of RAM out of the total 512mb. They have confirmed it will be fixed in the next software update

Hmmmm tempted to get one of these now seeing as i have sold my BB Storm2 the other day...got £280 for it so was pleased with that.

I have a voda contract thats costing me £25 a month...gives me 300 mins, unlimited txts and unlimited web useage...so am thinking of just buying the phone sim free and using my voda sim or just cancel the voda contract and buy a new contract....dont want to spend a stupid amount of money per month...just something with a decent amount of mins, unlimited txts and internet useage.

Picked up my Desire yesterday on PAYG. Great phone, really enjoying the speed and browsing experience.

However, I'm finding the push email to be very slow. I seem to have to manually refresh my gmail to get messages to appear. Bit of a disappointment really in that department (esp compared to the Bold 9700 it replaced). I may have to keep the Bold 9700 for serious use.

Hi mate, have you added your Google account to the Sync settings?

Go to settings > accounts & sync > Add account > select Google > create account or sign in

Then I think you choose what parts you want to sync, i.e. mail, calendar etc.

From Vodafone:
Samuel, you''ll be unable to upgrade early. For mor queries please contact our upgrades team on 191 free from your phone or 08700 700 191 from any fixed line phone (calls charged at national rate) select option 3 and then 1 from Monday to Sunday between 8:00 and 20:00.

Trust the above information helps.

Hmm I've just done a test email and I need to open the Google mail application and refresh to get the email. Not an issue for me as I can use push via active sync as I only need push for work emails.

Might try Google to see if you can get push via Google Mail.

Edit
Turns out the Gmail Talk service makes Gmail emails push through. What I did is open Gtalk application, went into Advanced Task Manager and added the Gmail talk service to the exception list (not the app, the service) so it will always be running without having the application open.

Hi

Just picked this up 2 days ago and I'm loving it so far. Such a step up from my old Samsung Tocco! I have a question though and need some help...

I have the notification at the top of the screen saying I have a voicemail. Is there any way to get rid of this, or do I have to listen to the message before it will disappear? I hate voicemail and it means I have to pay each time I retrieve a message.

Thanks in advance.

if you hold the statusbar and pull down to reveal the notifications window, then press clear

Thanks for that. :) Unfortunately, there isn't a clear button. :( There is when I get the message about successfully sending a text. Seems to not show for "new voicemail".

Ahhh just found it (I think). Under the Menu > Settings > Call.

If you look under where it has your Voicemail stuff, i.e. Voicemail Service, Voicemail Settings, there is a "Clear Voicemail Notification".

Job's a good 'un! :) Wonder why they don't just give you the clear button as normal. Oh well!

Thanks

Has anyone else had any problems with the phone picking up a Facebook contact as the contact for carrier messages? I've received a message from T-Mobile and the phone has picked up a random Facebook friend who has put their telephone number as "...hah yeah right" or something equally amusing... I've tried to add T-Mobile directly as a contact AND deleting the friend from my contact list but no change! I don't really want to wipe and start again if possible..

You'll need root and ADB or root and titanium backup, then its easy :)

Paul from modaco has root and is just finalising the details before release, so a fix for you should be just around the corner :)
