*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Just my luck a decent phone for a change and it breaks! Grrrrrrrr

Hi mate, have you tried a hard reset?

Not sure what the button combo is on the Desire for a hard reset but I believe on other HTC Devices - it requires the home button to be held down whilst turning the device on?

That reminds me, I really need to read the manual.

Manual:
  1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the volume down button and then briefly press the Power button
  2. Wait for the screen with the 3 Android images to appear and then release the volume down button.
  3. Press volume down to select clear storage and then press power.
  4. When asked to confirm, press volume up.

Even turning on normally takes ~ 10 minutes just now!

It will only boot into safe mode as well. Done nothing to it, it went crazy I.E pressing the screen would change the volume keep going to helicopter screen etc.

So I toke the battery out, as wouldn't allow me to turn it off.

Not wanting to reset everything but hey ho! Here goes.

Ordered from Vodafone.. The local shop had them in stock but wouldn't match the retention deal they offered me over the phone..

Coming Wednesday :)

Hmm I'm not so sure I'm getting on with touchscreen again. Brilliant apps and browsing experience, but I'm a frantic texter and having been used to the Bold 9700 physical keyboard it's slightly frustrating me trying to type really fast!

I might see how I feel at the end of the day - and flog it if my speed hasn't improved. Will I lose much if I flog a to day old phone do you reckon? Neveer flogged one so quick before (it's usually a few months after purchase!)

This may be a real dumb ass question... but here goes :o:o

I'm currently using a htc hd2, the more I use it the more I'm thinking it's a bit on the big side for me.
I've got my own exchange account and have my emails sync'd with my hd2 and my desktop, so the question is..... if I changed for the Desire will I be able to have my email and contacts set up as they are now with exchange.

Sorry for what may seem a stupid question but I've not has/used a phone with the Android OS on it before.

Cheers.

The HTC software can sync the contacts from your Windows contacts off your PC, so I would recommend saving your contacts off your HD2 into Windows Contacts.

Then Sync them onto your desire.

I find the text really good on this. The auto correct function is brilliant and easily adds to the speed at which i can text.

The issue i have is the alarms never go off at all. Something i'm unsure of how to fix as all notifications and sounds etc are switched on!!

Did you get it fixed?

TBH I don't know. I've just left it, I've had no more operator messages so it's been OK. Will just wait and see. There is apparently an update over the air for the device, I still haven't had this yet, but maybes the update will fix these little things...?

Depend if you got it as an upgrade, new contract or sim free.

If its contract on I would try and return it. PAYG prices have already drop to £350

and they have been selling for around £320 in the classifies.

Ah, mine's a SIM free version. Oh well, I'll see what happens. Funny thing is, when I concentrate I can type pretty quickly and accurately on it. It's those moments when you're concentrating on something else, dig it out of the pocket and send a throwaway email/text that I'm just pants. BB was ace for that.

Do you use a 'taskkiller'?

If so, make sure that the clock is on the 'exceptions' list otherwise it stops the alarms from sounding - it caught me out at first too :p

Weird because my Alarms of working fine and the clock application isn't open.

I used Advanced Task Manager and don't have the clock on the exception list.

Just a quick question...can the apps use the Desire's Wifi connection just as well as they can the mobile internet? I only ask as the Renoir (my current phone) only lets the built in apps use the wifi - any third party apps (such as web browsers) have to use the 3G signal and hence I get charged. I'm sure things have improved somewhat since the Renoir, but I thought I'd check anyway.

That'd be pointless to have WiFi then surely? ;)

People have stated on other threads that they use WiFi when possible to reduce their 3G bandwidth allowances so the answer would be yes.

From what I see, if you turn on WiFi and get it connected, the data connection changes from 3G etc to WiFi and it uses this...

The easiest way to check would be to turn of the "mobile" radio which turns off 3G/HSDPA and keeps the GSM connection. Run the app with WiFi on and see if it works.

Yes all the apps that I have used worked the same regardless if it's Wi-Fi or mobile connection.

I think you can set which connection takes priority.

Have you enabled vibrate on key press? makes typing very easy and fast to do.
