So what functionality does FroYo offer over 2.1? Someone "sell" the upgrade (which involves sim-unlocking/rooting/debranding my Orange phone and flashing a custom ROM) to me :p

Apps2SD is the main bonus IMO, but it you're happy to wait Orange will have it in a few weeks.

I'm going to be debranding my Orange today using the steps provided on the last page, so I'll let you know how I get on.

There's also performance improvements, updates to the radio (phone/data/wireless drivers), and 720p camcorder capability :)
Could be other bits too...

HTC just need to hurry up and stop teasing us with it now :p

Cool. Are you going to use unrEVOked?

Is there anywhere cheaper than this seller for SIM unlocks?

Paid £8.50 for mine from a ebay seller, not sure what he is charging for his desire ones and you have just linked to his my world page, got it within 2 mins ;)

*edit* clicked on his items for sale 7.99 with best offer :)

Why is there an Orange-only listing though which is £20?

My Desire arrived today, Brilliant phone.

Anyone recommend some MUST HAVE apps? / Tips? ( I know ther is an android thread but its Huuuuge )

I got mine yesterday too buddy. Worth the wait?
Quite enjoying it but it's completely different to Nokia/iPhone, might take some time to get used to.

It's not really that different to the iPhone? I have used iPhones as my main phone for the last 2 and a half years and I was expected it to be a bit of a struggle at first when I decided to use the Desire instead. However I felt straight at home, it's very similar.

If I debrand my phone to just the stock Sense 2.1, will I get the OTA update to stock Sense 2.2? Or will I get the orange branded 2.2 (when they eventually release it), or neither?

Cant wait for it to roll out.

Got a 1.21.405.2 firmware on mine atm, unlocked & debranded with generic HTC firmware.
So hopefully i should see Froyo soon. :D

Hows the HTC Sync for iTunes work then? Any information as to how it does it? Does it make the Desire show up as a device in iTunes or something?

It'll do one of two things I reckon...

Make the system and iTunes think that you Desire is an iPod, so that iTunes can sync with it.

Or, it will just read the library XML file and use the sync software to transfer the songs across using the data in that XML file.

I reckon it's the latter of the two personally. Remember all the problems the Palm Pre had with iTunes constantly rolling out new software to prevent that from happening? Unless Apple have changed tactics recently? Which I doubt they have...
