I had the same problem.
Astro File Manager, and Cubed or Mixzing Music player are must haves. If you want to play DivX video, then for now, Rock Player (v7 version) is also a must have.
A lot of the other basics are actually handled surprisingly well by programmes included with the phone.
It's going to get a whole lot better this weekend too.

I wish more developers would jump on the Android wagon. I had plenty to play about with on my iPod. Football Manager and Plants v Zombies and I'll be happy

the 405 roms are the unbranded ones, you are looking at the radio version.
a couple of examples below :-
1.15.405.4
1.21.405.2
i'm going to wait for a rooted version before i update, happy with OpenDesire at the moment
ok, i might flash an unbranded rom and update if the bootloader version doesnt change and lose root for a bit

Hehe, I got mine from CPW and can happily report unbranded ROM. Looking forward to Froyo actually, the newer radios released are apparently more stable in terms of data connections and signal etc, but I never wanted to have to root the phone to use them, Froyo theoretically should update the radio as well automatically to a more recent version.

i have under 'Software Number' 1.15.110.11
t-mobile original rom that mine came with iirc
so i presume i can root to a default unlocked rom and obtain the update as and when?
yep, either that or wait for t-mobile to update it after HTC release it
rooting and putting other roms on is pretty painless though

Hi guys good news on the upcoming Froyo update.
A question for you all. I've gotten lost in the last 50 pages of custom ROM talk. I have an Orange locked and branded Desire and I want to replace the image with a generic one to get rid of all of the Orange crap. Not stripped down and customised, just the out of the box, HTC Desire ROM. Does such a ROM exist?

yep, this is the guide i followed when i rooted my phone (might be other methods now, i havent looked)

the testruu is just a normal generic rom, so you'd only need to go down to the install of that rom in the guide (4.8)

yeah just been reading up on rooting, but where do i get a stock rom from then? unbranded unlocked one?
