*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

no problems here, you might have done something wrong? cleared caches etc before installing the rom?? updated radio?

the superuser permissions is part of rooted roms so thats normal.

if you cant get into recovery that is an issue though....

Haven't installed a new rom yet; thought I needed to boot into recovery to do that?

I think ROM manager can install a ROM directly, but I don't want to risk that whilst I've got problems getting into recovery.

Might try redoing the unrevoked thing, and using a different recovery image.

I got my HTC Desire from the Carphone Warehouse! And its on the Orange network! I don't think the handsets from CPW are branded at all but I still havent received an update for 2.2 yet?

oh i see, yeh try unrevoked again.
might solve problems, dont use rom manager just stick the rom on sd card and do it through recovery - you really need to get that working else it could lead to further problems.

Just got a HTC Wildfire as a work phone, my god the screen is terrible compared to the Desire.

what version does it say under settings>about phone>software version>software number

?

Oh my god, picked mine up today and have been confused ever since :(

Just goes to show I am 5 years behind on technology. Last decent phone I had was an N82.

Where do I start on configuring it. Making sure I am not hammering the 3g data usage.

I'd read this thread but it's rididulously long. and dont say RTFM cos that is non existent !!

the manuals on the phone itself, so you can RTFM. lol
but im not that mean, to address your points:
1_ configurations - menu button - settings
2_in settings - account + sync, you can set when it syncs, what it syncs etc.

Hmm think i've balls up somehow. Downloaded the HTC froyo 2.2 update and renamed it to update.zip and ran the update from sdcard in recovery mode.
All went well and it greeted me with a congratulations for upgrading to 2.2, and the software version says 2.2, but nothing has changed.
The bar at the top is the same, the console at the bottom isn't there buttons its the same ^ phone +.

2.2 Looks the same, the differences can been seen in the widgets and a few other things. What version does it say in settings?

thanks, i can see facebook, gmail stocks weather and twitter in there at the moment.

it's all set to auto-sync and background data is ticked too. Should I turn these options off ?

Naw, leave them on. Just adjust the settings of how often it syncs. Personally I put mine at 12 hrs since I manually sync them myself when viewing Facebook or Twitter (or whatever else needs syncing)

Install something like Netcounter to monitor your usage, and use WiFi whenever possible :)

Appbrain is also worth installing, so you can install apps with ease via a web interface and then also view what apps other people use. Mine are here.

android 2.2
BB version 32.43.00.32U
Kernerl version 2.6.32.15
software number 2.09.405.8
Webkit 3.1

Whats with the change in home screen I see on most froyo phones then, is that standard froyo, and the htc version is the same as what I saw from 2.1 (cause frankly I think the ^ phone + thing is ugly and was looking forward to getting rid of it).
I would go back to LauncherPro, but i found it ate my battery like a fat lass at a buffet.

Ok, have adjusted bookface and twitter to sync every 4 hours. Gmail and the rest are all set as they should be I think.

I have got 3G Watchdog at the moment, is netcounter better ?

Have signed up for appbrain. What is the mobile url for it though as havent installed it yet.
