*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Yea, the clockwork recovery that installs by default was working fine so I reflashed using unrevoked and the amonra image but it just goes to a black screen after unrevoked says "done". On the black screen I can't do anything. I've been getting into recovery by holding down the volume button as you say.

Whoops, exploring the recovery menu and I'm now in recovery mode (pic od Desire with exclamation triangle next to it). I've no data cable here, how can I reboot back to standby? :confused:

I've a stock non-rooted 2.1 Desire.

Cheers.

Edit: Held down vol up, and a new menu appeared enabling me to reboot.

Have you got an SLCD screen? There's a new version that supports them, the original R5 didn't.

not sure if this is the same file that is linked in the first post of the thread on XDA.

is it possible to root 2.2 on the desire yet? im on the boggo OTA version of 2.2 at the mo.

TG

yes, most of us are on a rooted 2.2 rom, ie; opendesire, defrost, leedroid, nextsense etc.

Where abouts is the setcpu option in defrost?

Pay for it via the market. ($1.99?) However you used to be able to download it for free via xda but not sure if you still can.

It is possible but can be quite complicated depending if you have an AMOLED or SLCD screen on your phone.

Installing 2.2 also upgrades HBOOT to 0.92. This has not yet been cracked and must be downgraded before the phone can be rooted.

AMOLED
  • Downgrade HBOOT 0.92 -> 0.80
  • Root phone

SLCD
  • Downgrade HBOOT 0.92 -> 0.80
  • HBOOT 0.80 doesn't support SLCD so you'll get a blank screen.
    Look at this guide to rooting the phone blind. Down, Down, Click, Up, Menu, Wait...
  • Once rooted you can install HBOOT 0.83/2.1
  • This will loose you root but will give you a rootable HBOOT and working screen.
  • Root again.

Whatever you do some perusing of xda-developers or modaco is recommended first!

/edit
Looks like in the past few days a new and simpler method has been launched for downgrading both AMOLED and SLCD phones from 0.92/2.2 -> 0.83/2.1
No idea how well it works.

Currently have Leedroid on my phone but was thinking of trying out DeFroST, only it appears that I'll have to wipe my sd card completely and re-format it as Froyo can't see ext partitions. Is this correct?

FroYo can see EXT paritions on custom ROMs, just install DeFrost and wipe your SD-EXT (and everything else since it's a new ROM).

The ROM will put all apps and cache to the EXT automatically.
