Battery?

The official HTC battery was £5 on a popular rain forest, might be worth checking if it's still there.

Also a question to ex Desire owners if there are any in here. What phone did you go for next? I'm really enjoying Android and quite like the look of the Nexus but part of me is itching to try something different and go for a Windows phone. Anyone jumped ship and what do you think?

ex desire owner here, i moved on to a galaxy nexus when they came out.

excellent phone IMO, other than root, i've not bothered doing much to it as it's great stock :)

@imb4tman

I've found wp7 to be better than IOS and android for email and texting.

As for maps Bing maps isn't as good as google maps, however I hear that Nokia maps is just as good/better. Unfortunately I can't confirm this as never used it, but there's lots of reviews on YouTube.

Well I say the battery because that will be the easiest thing to check first, but it could be the phone is dead :-(

And yeah they are £5 plus the nearly £5 again for postage, which if it fixes the problem great if not then that's £10 wasted.

That is good to hear. Really tempted to go for a WP7 handset now.

Hi guys - a while ago I rooted my desire and installed InsertCoin with Data2EXT as I was trying to get around continual running out of space. Since then I've not had a problem. My sister now wants me to do the same thing for her Desire, but InsertCoin with Data2EXT doesn't actually seem to exist any more, at least not in a recent form. CM7 and A2SD+ are available though - do these do the same thing in terms of shoving data out to the SD card?

Im using this rom at present

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315961

Its actually very smooth and has sense 3.5, if you like sensE?

your phone is rooted and has custom recovery?

Erm no i dont think so, all ive done with my desire in the 14 months ive had it, was update to 2.3.3 off the HTC website last week :P

Where should i start? i pick up on tutorials quiet quickly, just need a general direction to go. I want to install that 3.5 sense runnymede rom, i bought the missus a sensation xl few weeks back and love the sense rom.

Help, what have I done??

As suggested above I'm trying to install Runnymede (having had a few problems with my phone anyway thought it was time for a change). There was a nice step-by-step guide to my last ROM, InsertCoin, so I could do it without really understanding what I was doing. This time I can't find one, so I'm struggling. This is what I've done:

1) Returned to stock Desire using an RUU (as suggested here). I did this because my phone was having so many problems I couldn't install 4ext or Titanium Backup or anything. This seemed to go very well and the phone was working as new.

2) Rooted using unrevoked using instructions here which was fine. I tried the S-OFF instructions in there but they didn't work because it was designed for CDMA, not GSM.

3) S-OFF using the instructions given here using AlphaRev. Again, everything seemed okay.

4) I then wanted to install CM7r2 HBOOT as apparently you need it to get A2SDX, which I wanted to get the most space possible. This is where I think I made a mistake. I went to this site, saw that if I had S-OFF I could just download a HBOOT image. So I selected the CM7r2 one and tried to flash the HBOOT. Initially, this seemed okay but then the phone wouldn't boot past the splash screen.

Apparently this is because my partitions are the wrong size for CM7r2 so apparently I've missed a step somewhere. However, I tried then to download the stock HBOOT to try and get back to where I was before. Now the phone gets past the splash screen, but keeps restarting in a loop after the 'Quietly brilliant' HTC logo-video type thing.

At this point I decided to stop messing around and call in some help. So...help?

That will at least give you the chance to unlock your bootloader officially, there are otherways. Ive not tried that myself but the instructions seem fairly clear, was going to try and do my wifes wildfire s by the same method. Best place ive found is xda developers forum for info, this thread was great but has pretty much died now as most people have moved on

Thing is if you already had insertcoin on your phone must have already been rooted and had a custom recovery installed?

So you downloaded and installed unrevoked from here http://unrevoked.com/recovery/

Its pretty much a simple one click operation to root and install custom recovery on your phone. You will need the different usb drivers for it to work however, i'll see if I can find a link. then its a case of connecting phone to pc making sure its in debugging mode and it should just do its stuff.

Yes it did, but when I set it back to stock the root and the custom recovery went too. I did try going direct to Runnymede from InsertCoin, but the problems I was having with 4Ext denied me that option.

Okay, so I've managed to go back to the stock ROM I started with (I'm not quite sure how, but never mind). I still want the Runnymede tho. Can anybody tell me then how I go about getting CM7r2 HBoot? Clearly it's not just a case of replacing the stock hboot.

right, you youve flashed a stock Ruu?

your going to have to run unrevoked again to root and install a custom recovery.

Once your rooted and got custom recovery installed you will have to s-off your phone using the reflash utility at http://alpharev.nl/ Your going to also need androidsdk installed so you can adb the hboot files across.

Seems I'm not the only person having issues. I'm at the recovery part using clock work mod. But it won't mount the dam sd card to finish the rooting.

What am I going wrong.
