*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Anyone got any feedback on the battery life? I am finding it is terrible, way worse than my Hero before.

Anything I should investigate? Having to charge it at my work desk, yesterday it ran out of battery at 5pm!

I've sent a message and gotten a reply from the vodafone upgrade team and am awaiting a callback, they're expecting Desires to be in stock on the 20th and I am expecting a call to work out a priceplan deal sometime by then too.

The phone upgrade lines could only offer £30 a month the same as online plans.

It will get better over the first couple of weeks. Mine just about lasted a day yesterday, today it is at 85% with nearly 6 hours since switching on.

Ah, thanks. I'll wait and see. Also waiting on a bunch of micro USB adapters to arrive, I have loads and loads of old blackberry/XDA/Garmin etc USB chargers I want to still use. (I literally have a charger in every room!)

What skin is everyone going for?

mine is brand new, and it lasts about 2 days at the moment, i have turned a few things off/ and reduced the sync update rate so it lasts a little longer. but it should get better, my hero got better with time.

I'm thinking of upgrading my ageing, out of contract, iPhone 3G to a Desire.

I've not been in a mobile phone shop for years, but do they tend to have any Desire's out anywhere that you can have a play with like you can with iPhone in Apple stores?

I just got one from the Carphone Warehouse, the guy had one on him, and gave it for me to play with.

My second Desire feels and looks much better, the optical trackpad is properly centered, works perfectly, and theres no light leaking out of the edges, and I've noticed that the power switch is flush with the rest of the phone. And I have a working sim card :D happy days!

Can you change the sync rate for Google Mail / Calendar / Contacts?

Yes:

Changing general sync settings

Press HOME > MENU, and then tap Settings > Accounts & sync.
Select or clear the following:
Background data. If this is selected, applications can send and receive online account
information even if you are not currently using them.

Auto-sync.

If this is selected, applications can use the sync schedule defined in the
account settings. If this is cleared, you will need to sync accounts manually. For
instructions on doing this, see “Synchronizing an account manually” below.

Changing account settings

You can change settings such as the sync frequency and the types of information
synchronized, the kinds of notification you receive, and the way that account information is
displayed.

Press HOME > MENU, and then tap Settings > Accounts & sync.
Tap the account that you want to edit.
Edit the account settings.

Synchronizing an account manually

Press HOME > MENU, and then tap Settings > Accounts & sync.
Tap the account that you want to sync.
Tap Sync now.

Bloody DPD, playing games with me.

They came just this minute. I heard a single, whisper quiet knock. I went to the door - no-one there. I closed the door, and 5 mins later a calling card comes through "we tried to deliver but you weren't in". Arrggh

I agree about the live wallpapers.

I've did some more digging about the sync frequency:

In Gmail, there is no frequency setting because the email is "pushed" to the phone.

On the other hand, the HTC mail application has a frequency setting because it searches for email at a preset time. This is for when you have other accounts that do not have a push type exchange account.

Does anyone know the cheapest place to get this now? Last weekend I was just about to buy it and I thought I'd wait as I'm moving soon and I know the reception for t-mobile is crap in my area.. but now they hiked the prices up so high! Seems ridiculous, over double the amount. So I'm looking for alternatives.

One thing I was considering was just buying a handset off ebay and signing up to the 02 simplicity - does anyone know if I could buy an iphone contract (it gives you more data right?) and have it work in the desire 100%?

Cheers guys.

Do you guys use the auto brightness feature or just crank it up to the max? I tried it with full brightness and it looks amazing, but I'm concerned that it will eat my battery :(

I use auto brightness. I didn't see the need for full brightness all the time and it will drain the battery a lot quicker.

If the email is pushed then it may use the battery up more than if email is pulled to the device. TBH, unless you use email in a time critical environment then I dont see why anyone has it set quicker than every 1-2 hours... Unless they want to feel important....
