*** The Official HTC One M8 Thread ***

I would wait a few week to confirm but it seems like it should be done without an issues. If there is a GPe versions I hope it keeps the knock to wake feature, reaching that power button will be annoying.

I disabled it. Tbh it's not that hard to reach power. I would say I have medium size hands and I have no issue using the phone one handed.

There are challenges turning the LG G Pad into the GPE version (i.e. not doable as of now), so I would hold off until certain...

Not sure why as i loved the look of the last htc one, but i really dont like the look of this phone. I would prefer matte instead of gloss for a start, but also the curves i feel look a bit naff, and that kind of lip around the edge of the screen detracts from the 'edge to edge'.

The colours and the dual speakers i cant help but think of it as a bit of a chav phone :|

When I got my HTC One I was convinced that I wouldn't upgrade it for at least 2 years because it's just everything I want in a phone, but now this has come along and upped the game more I think I'm going to probably end up upgrading in a couple of months :(

You should now if you like HTC, its what i did and got into the HTC new phone time frame. HTC release there latest phone around the same time of each other with another in the middle.

HTC OneX < Flagship ---- HTC ONE+ ---- HTC ONE < Flagship ---- HTC ONE MAX ---- HTC ONE M8 < Flagship

So next year you get a more tweaked version of the M8 say HTC One M8+ and then year after then next big release.

A S5 sized M8 with either a S5 or Z2 quality camera would have been such an awesome device - really sad that they didn't do it this time around. Perhaps that is what the next device will be?

HTC build quality and materials are excellent, Sense isn't a bad android overlay, so just lose the stupid black bar to get it back to a more manageable size and add a better camera (rather than just stupid effects) and HTC could have got so much market share with this device.

They had the potential to have another 'game changer' on their hands like they did with the original HTC Desire, but instead ended up with a decent phone that excels in some areas, but is behind their competitors in other areas.

So it's been a week now since I upgraded to the HTC One M8, and I still cannot use the phone due to a colossal **** up at T-Mobile/EE and despite daily phone calls to get it resolved I am still stuck at square one, the latest phone call resulted in me telling them to shove the phone where the sun don't shine and refusing to pay the bill they sent out.

As it stands I have had 2 phones my new one and old neither of which could be used for the entire duration and they have the audacity to say it will be resolved in 5 days. I'm not waiting any longer!

While I'd prefer the S5 or 5S camera, the Ultrapixel camera seems quite good in most situations, and the UFocus stuff will appeal to people (not as much as megapixel count though).

I've not got the phone yet, but I've studied all the camera samples and reviews and people seem to like it.

I've tried the M8 side by side with the S5, and the S5 is a lot nicer than I was expecting, but the HTC is definitely my preference. As for the size, they feel about the same in the hand.

Is it me or are Techradar HTC fanboys or in HTC's pocket? Just seems so biased now that I hardly believe what they are saying. The latest article is saying its ok for shell out £1000 on a 24 month contract. £1000 for a phone! **** off!

Yeh, I'm not too happy about the way they kept the rumour milling turning when they blatantly had the phone the whole time.

I assume I'm allowed to ask this (with jailbreaking discussion being ok) but how can I root my phone? Some of the apps I want to run require root.

Only information I can see is via a "WeakSauce" app but that only works with Verizon locked phones and on running that app nothing happens. I'm a complete Android noob so have never rooted before but I understand the pitfalls and dangers.

XDA developers forum and youtube have all the info you need easily found and easy to follow.

THis and Three want 38£ a month for the HTC One M8 (Upfront 50£ charge)

THe HTC One only cost me 31£ and no upfront cost.

There getting to costly and its why I haven't upgraded yet.

but did you buy the previous one practically on day 1? Wait until the Z2 and S5 arrive and it'll all normalise, price gouging is entirely normal in the early days and these guys aren't charities.
