Just got one of these. My first HTC phone has the Samsung S2 & S3 in the past.

Anything I should do from the off? Any HTC specific apps?

Also looking for some gadgets (case, docking station)

Edit : just opened the box an realised it comes with a case...

EDIT 2 : How do I stop the google search app from launching automatically when i unlock my phone?

Dont use the case! the standard case scratches the phone.
 
So how easy is it to root but keep the stock rom? I want access to app ops and to run afwall firewall, don't especially enjoy apps having unfettered access to everything!

Ooops..just taken it off thanks! Luckily it looks fine. Any recommendations for a non bulky case? I've managed to smash my last 2 phone screens, but really don't want a flip case or anything like that.

Cases!

Never have a case on my phone but want to protect this one!

What's the general consensus?

So far it seems the better ones are the official HTC double dip, and the Casemate Tough/Barely there.

Anybody have experience of the above?
 
I just purchased a Poetic HTC One M8 Case [ATMOSPHERE Series] from the Rainforest.
I haven't got it yet but will see what it's like.

I might get a sleeve instead but haven't decided yet
 
Probably adds 3-4mm all over, but it feels solid and I'm a bit more confident with the phone. I'm scared of using the phone without a case just because the metal back is so smooth.

I didn't order a Spigen ultra fit, had a nilkin before. Nilkin was good, but I just wanted protection on the tops and bottom too.
 
I've found the standard case no problems at all...... none of the "scratching" others have mentioned at all. No point in paying for case when the standard supplied one seems to be fine.
