*** The Official HTC One M8 Thread ***

The Google+ app uploads your photos to your Google+ Photos page (https://plus.google.com/photos). There isn't a way to auto-upload your photos to Google Drive without the use of a third party app like FolderSync.

What's annoying is you can't see your Google+ Photos in Google Drive, but you can see your Google Drive photos in Google+ Photos.

I just upload everything to Drive and don't bother with Google+ at all :p

Yep, thanks for that explanation, thats what I was thinking and it seems to be where i'm at now. I can stop trying to figure that one out now then :D

Just had a little look at Foldersync in the attempt to completely switch to google services, but it seems it doesn't support uploads to google drive :( It does say google docs though but this is where i stumble.. Is google docs part of google drive?

Is it the done thing to ask whether anyone has any suggestions for where to find a UK supplier of a SIM free one? Not so keen on getting one from one of those companies that ships from outside the EU, giving rise to customs and import duties together with tenuous delays in the case of warranty issues!

Giffgaff seem to be the best place, phone is unlocked and not tied to a contract and you can pay by instalments or outright

Thanks for the tips on foldersync Benjo.

I'm loving this thing more everyday. Coming from iPhones, I'm just a little anxious if anything goes wrong. One thing apple have sewn up is warranty replacements. If anything goes wrong with this, i'll be devo'd to be without it for weeks. This brings me onto my next point...

Are you guys worried about the camera glass clouding that I've been reading about?

I've not read much about the faults like that, it just tends to make you look for it. HTC are good regarding warranty, I've had friends get hardware repairs even rooted with custom ROMs.

You can do so much more with android if you give it the time of day to learn what tickles it's pickle. :)

Yeah, It is a learning experience too. Am just looking at rooting, mainly for some kind of ad blocking tool. Am happy with sense so not too bothered about romming just yet (although the GPE looks pretty nice)

EDIT: Regarding rooting.. are there any guides you guys recommend? I've had a look at a few but it seems like theres different ways with things like s-off? HTC Dev to unlock the boot loader or not use htc dev to unlock boot loader.. its a bit of a minefield.

Yes to HTCDev, I used it with my MBP after getting my head around file paths. Bear in mind I've never really used Terminal or Fastboot before, if I had it would've taken 10 seconds. Here's a link from HTC Source.

Thanks Danny. Will have a look into this. I'm guessing once rooted, OTA updates are a no go?

I'm not sure about that, you could be right but I never kept a stock ROM long enough to find out. Even with no rooting I can count the amount of official OTAs I've had on one hand. Edit: That's from any phone I've ever had, not just the HTC. I do get Cyanogen updates though. :p

Hi guys, Have looked into rooting now, Whats the best recovery to use CWM or TWRP? Am gonna stick with stock sense rom for the time being.

Also, does anyone have a list of apps they use once rooted? so far on mine I have Ti Backup, Adaway, clean maid, greenify and Xposed framework with gravity box (mainly to get rid of the nav bar in some fullscreen apps/games.

I use TWRP, it works well. I always used CWM in the past and that worked well also. Apples to oranges and all that.

Regarding apps, I keep mine to a minimum:

Z-Player - Windows Phone themed music player, very very smooth to use.
Flipboard
Adaway
GravityBox
AirDroid - Browser-based file transfer/notifications/toolkit. Visit website, scan QR and that's literally it.
WidgetLocker - Replacement lockscreens, pretty seamless.
Nova Prime
Banking app
Sky TV guide
Quickpic - photo gallery
Tapatalk
UCCW - clock/battery/anything widgets
Extended Controls - I love this, can lock screen with a tap, not often seen it in other apps like it.
Kinux icons
Temple run (original)

That's pretty much it, sounds like a lot written down. :D

EDIT: You might want/need to look into apps that hide root access from certain apps. Some banking apps will not work on a rooted phone so bear that in mind if you use them. I don't know if it's still the case though, mine seems to work these days. The fact those apps exist suggest it is the case though.

Great info, thanks guys. Dimi, I should have mentioned I am using osx.

I tried to get Adaway on last night but found it it does need S-OFF. Is that a reversible process, so you can turn S-ON back on ?

EDIT: I did try the Firewater version but it looks like thats not going to work :(

You can go S-ON again but you need an RUU (Rom Upgrade Utility) for the original version IIRC, and they'll only work on windows I think. I'm often setting up bootcamp because android is a sod on osx.

Thats good news then, thanks again, I do have a windows vm I can use. Right now though, as firewater says its not gonna work, I think my only option is Sunshine?
