*** The Official HTC One M8 Thread ***

I wonder how good the 'Duo Camera' will be. Samsung have managed to achieve the same effect on the S5 with just one camera.

I hope they've bumped up the Ultrapixel camera res to at least 8MP, it's worth doing even if it means making the pixel size a bit smaller.

Double tap the screen to turn on the phone too, was hoping for that.

What that rubbish blur effect from the demos? :p It looks like HTCs Duo camera will be no better tbh.

The main difference is 'duo camera' can generate a simple 3D depth map, like the kinect. From there you can blur background features much more accurately (still using a blur filter, not like lytro or a low aperture lens)
It should also improve exposure by 1 stop but both top/bottom camera units look very similar and a bit small to me. (the bottom one has OIS maybe?)
Ideally the top camera would be a 24-28mm wide angle with a large 40-50mm unit underneath for 3x optical zoom. Maybe that's for next year...

I predict another camera disappointment from HTC. :D

Samsung's implementation like all others needs time to process so that could be a big win for HTC. Presumable their implementation should be instant as it uses 2 camera. I believe all leaks are pointing towards to 5MP shooters.

Both are a post process gaussian blur filter, the only difference is the HTC uses a real depth map. Meh, at the end of the day it's just a fake DoF art filter.

HDR and multi shot modes should see a big improvement, ghosting will be reduced with two cameras taking the same shot with different exposures.

More details - http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_2014_detailed_specs-news-8008.php

The HTC One (2014) will measure 146.36 x 70.6 x 9.35, making it a little thicker than its main rivals. Weight is set at 160g.

The screen will indeed be a 5" 1080p unit. The processor is quoted to be a quad-core 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 801, while the battery capacity will be 2,600 mAh. The SIM is said to be of the nano variety (like on the iPhone 5, 5c and 5s, Moto X, etc.) and there will be a microSD card slot to compliment the preloaded 16 GB of storage (10GB of which will b e user available).

There's no world on the camera resolution but the rest of the specs appear the same as last year's model - 1/3.0" size, f/2.0 aperture, 2µm pixel size, etc. suggesting the resolution could again be 4 MP. According to the guide the video capture is still 1080p and not 4K. There will also be a rapid improvement in the front-facing camera which will now pack 5MP sensor.

A Barometer is also said to be on board, but FM Radio is a no-go. You can check out the HTC One 2014 specs page, where we've added all the new info we learned.

2014
One - 146 x 70.6 x 9.35

GS5 - 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm
GS4 - 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm
One - 137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3 mm
Z2 - 146.8 x 73.3 x 8.2 mm

I was just about to post that! :p I really hope the back camera isn't 4MP again, 8MP would be better.

Camera aside though, it seems rather excellent.

5MP front camera? That's a lot higher than other phones, I guess HTC really wants people to take selfies.

Really want to see a review on the Duo camera, it sounds like it does have some potential.

Nice specs yeah. I thing there's 2 silver models. The light one looks boring but the the greyish silver with the brushed satin finish looks nice and classy. Well done to HTC for adding the SD slot! 16GB onboard is a bit of a let down but hey-ho.

All round great contender then.
