*** The Official HTC One M8 Thread ***

HTC have the opportunity to launch a great new phone...

Yeah, with Samsung having somewhat dropped the ball with the S5, this is HTC's one last chance to pull off another Desire... doesn't look like this is gonna be it though. I mean, smaller screen vs. comps, only 2GB RAM etc. is all fine. But not if they are gonna charge the same price!

I'm semi-hoping these are fake/old renders, but if anyone is gonna gazump Sammy to the Android party, it will be Sony with the Z2, or LG with the G3 (excited to see the latter).

Re. The Z2 - it must be gorilla glass right? At this point, I feel like company's don't even bother mentioning that because it's a given!

I would hope your right, but I would like the reassurance of seeing it in print.

As for htc if they fail with the 25/03/14 event I can honestly see me getting a Z2 and then hoping Spigen bring out a nice screen protector and decent case for it. It would be a shame really as I've had a htc phone for probably the last 4/5 years and love them, I guess only time will tell.

Just watching the video (it's been reposted on YouTube). It seems real and seems to match all the leaks. So let's assume it is.

I quite like the design, it doesn't look bad. The brushed looking metal is nice.

An SD card slot is nice too, good of them to include that. Especially if the base storage is 32GB?

Shame we didn't really see anything else. Doesn't look like it'll be anything to get too excited about though?

How does that hyperactive child get to play with new device before me :( rage.

I thought the same. It'll be through his dad I imagine who works for/with HTC.

He's going to be in real trouble though as the rear label and some of his other info is on display during the video...

What baffles me is that the people designing these phones must have some sort of design qualifications and yet the design of the M8 omits important factors such as ergonomics.

Surely they test the use of the handset internally and with consumer groups and it would be easy to establish that having a power button on top of such a tall phone isn't comfortable at all.

The HTC logo does waste space but I can understand why they've put it there due to having minimal room with the BoomSound stereo speaker setup. You could question if they need the logo on the front as iPhones only having branding on the back, but I guess they don't have the brand equity and established design that Apple have. Even Samsung still put their logo on the front of phones if I'm not mistaken?

Apparently his parents work for HTC and once he took the video down his friend started to post it everywhere and their jobs are in danger. Silly of the kid to do this from the start,

I have mixed feelings about the design, the side bezels are still pretty big, the speakers not being symmetrically still annoys me and the wasted space on a Logo. I would rather it was thicker without the logo if they needed extra space.

Samsung have had it below the earpiece for a really long time but it's font is small so it fits really. If it has double tap to wake then the button being at the top isn't so important - is it on that vid? I can't find a mirror right now to check but if it's not then its going to be a pain with it being so up high :( In the earlier HTCs it was OK but you can't keep growing at putting it there - we don't all have hands like Kobe.

I expect the space behind the logo is used for something internally, so maybe it's not just there for no reason.

Overall I think it's a fairly nice design, it looks better in the video than the leaked pictures, and I'm sure it feels nice in the hand.

I wonder how the 2 rear cameras will work, bit of a strange one?!

I understand, but from the leak video it said the device is thinner, I would have rather it stayed the same thickness and just removed that bit of bezel, surface space wise it would be roughly the same I guess. Things like having a top mounted power button make the device being any taller really difficult.

Camera wise I would guess something similar too this, http://www.engadget.com/2014/02/26/corephotonics-dual-lens-smartphone-camera/

I agree, Looks much better in the video. Certainly looks better than the S5, I won't be bothering with any new phone this year though none tick the boxes fully. Bring on 2015! :p
