*** The official HTC One S thread ***

yeah :o i've played with it at CPW and it felt tiny in my hands.. i've no idea why :) its not much smaller than s2 so how did it feel so small i have no idea :D

Couple of other things.. Do i need a certain app to be able to play .mkvs properly? Just loading them from the gallery the video is fine but no sound. General media player recommendation basically? :p Also a way to stream stuff from my PC over the network?

Bs player lite and mx player are the best, they can also stream over lan, if playback is a bit stuttery , go to wifi settings and enable maximum wifi performance, which helps but unfortunately I am limited by my xxxxxx Virgin super hub for 1080p mkvs still

It's not your Virgin router, MKV's play fine on any device on mine! Stop downloading all that pr0n!

DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just finished typing a reply to you locke and phone shut down due to battery and I was just about to take/post screenshots of battery life as well FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU  Thought it would have warned me at 10%.......

Anyway firstly battery life, I tried auto brightness out there and usage was wifi on all day, "GSM only" was selected instead of "WCDMA only" (noticed my voice reception was stronger when I did this), about 15 mins of N64 emulator, 10 mins of riptide, 5 min of pool game, at least 45 minutes of browsing (mostly bright colour backgrounds such as XDA, neowin and gsmarena), installing/uninstalling/updating apps, about 3 or 4 youtube videos (about 15 min in total), some texting, few quick phone calls, emails, 5 minutes of 1080P footage shot along with 10 photos or so and lastly on screen time would have been around 4 hours 30 minutes (can't give exact time, but last time I checked when it was 25% it was 4 hours and 13 minutes iirc).

Pretty damn impressive as the auto brightness made the screen brighter than what it needed to be quite a lot! So I am guessing that the GSM only mode made a huge impact.

@Locke

Pretty sure it is the virgin superhub as wireless performs dreadful for it no matter what device is connected to it. If hardwired to the PC, get a full 60MB, but all the wireless devices only get 29MB max.

Plus if I put the films on my mobile's internal storage, it plays flawlessly.

And then I read this:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18296679

Are there any specific settings that need to be enabled/disabled in the router settings?

And what pron............ :o

:p

Tried both of those players. Bs player I couldn't seem to find my files and the other one I got no sound again. Where do you store videos on the phone? I'll give the streaming a bash tomorrow

Have heard a few people mention using n64 emulator on there phones what is the best one called I would love to try this? Also any good Snes or megadrive ones to try?
My phone is showing an available software update now anyone got any positives or negatives as my phone seems to be running well and I don't want to jinx it!
Last thing, anyway to create folders in bookmarks as I have a fair few and want to organise them better?

Yup I am using most of those emulators, I would link you to them but on my mobile at the minute so will take longer doing that than just linking my appbrain list where they can be found :p

http://www.appbrain.com/user/Nexus91/htc-one-s

Also rom gripper is good for downloading roms for all the emulators.

I haven't read the latest on that update since 3am but as usual there are mixed comments, will check for the update later and see how things go.

As for the bookmarks in the browser, you can't do that in the stock browser and the majority of 3rd party browsers but can do it with dolphin hd iirc.

You can create folders in your bookmarks. When you save a bookmark in default Browser .... Add too - Bookmarks - Click 'Bookmarks Button' - Click 'pointing down arrow' - New Folder.

I'm using ICS Browser+ and it's a similar job. Once you go to add a bookmark then chose 'Other Folder' and then 'New Folder' to create a new folder.

I think you can then organize bookmarks into the folders you want? Hope this is what you were looking for?

Looks like you need to return that one Skillmister. Had mine a week and not a scratch on it, nor any chipping. And I don't use a case either...hate the things!

That's awful! Get it replaced.

It is rather amusing that such a fancy and 'strong' technology is so dodgy. I wouldn't want it on my space shuttle that's for sure. :p

You bought it from O2, get them to sort it out. Don't put up with any of their nonsense.

It's a common fault admitted by HTC as MicroArc Oxidation Failure.

Alright i'll get into town tomorrow and get it done. I look forward to the **** they will no doubt give me about returning to a different store like these people always try to pull :D

Just had a look there at both ics browser and sense and you actually have got "folders" in some ways, it is just called labels instead though :p

I can't see any option for folders.

However, can see no way of creating a new label/folder in the bookmarks menu, but when you go to save a page to bookmarks or edit a current bookmark, you can give/change the label there.

Yeah as said skillmister, get it swapped for a brand new one ASAP and if o2 deny anything about that and you have to go through HTC etc. then just show them all the websites that have stated HTC official announcement about getting it replaced without any questions :)

Indeed! :D

Although it might be very strong the material itself, it is just the "coating" that flakes off.

Holds up pretty well here once a bit of spit and polish is applied :p

Makes me sad that video :(

:p

no surprise when you rub the thing on gravel...

i've got a tiny scratch on mine where it rubbed against the zip on my coat; not bothered by it though as it's virtually invisible
