***The Official HTC One Thread***

Not really imo, it depends on how you look at it though, imo the main stand out areas over the DNA would be:

- speakers
- camera overall
- build/design/perceived quality

And then other things like battery life (although don't think there would be enough of a difference to be worth worrying about)

But if it was a cheap/free upgrade, I most certainly wouldn't say no to it :p

Is the One really much better than the DNA?

Build quality it's superior to the DNA, nicer size for me anyway, sound wise it's in a different league never heard such a loud clear phone. Screen is about the same as the quality of the DNA was fantastic already, camera is much much better but that was going to be obvious.

The main issue I had with the DNA was mobile data as it only worked on very low speeds , something to do with the bands, was reading about it on the internet so mobile data was really slow and this flies as 4g works on this phone.

Does tethering work on this?

Not sure as it's not something I would personally require but if you do tether, and you do not abuse it (ie. 10gb+ every month) I don't see you having any issues.

My current contract with T-Mob has a 1.5gb data limit and even though I've at times exceeded this, they have never once charged me extra or even contacted me regarding it.

By the way, the deal I posted has been removed but you can actually still access the link even though it says out of stock. If you check on affordable mobiles, the contract I posted is available but they want 120 for the handset, yet if you go through the 'our best deals' link on the homepage, you can still see it there and it's only 30 for the handset. I'm not sure if they will honour it but it's worth a try.

Unlocking the bootloader is irreversible though...

not if its anything like my One S, I unlocked the bootloader, rooted and flashed it then set it all back to stock, relocked the bootloader and recycled it. I expect HTC directly would know as iirc you need to register it with them to unlock it but it's not impossible to at least make it look like it's never been touched.

I just landed an early upgrade to one of these. With my half price discount I ended up getting a 24 month 4G contract for £27 a month with 3GB data, unlimited calls and unlimited texts.

Not too fussed about the 4G, truth be told, but I didn't have to pay extra for the phone so that's pretty cool.

That's excellent to hear, my comment was just based upon what I'd read. :)

From what I can tell the One doesn't support DC-HSDPA but does support HSPA+ ... it doesn't seem a whole hell of a lot faster browsing things on it than my DHD was and speedtest isn't showing speeds anywhere near what a DC-HSDPA phone can achieve!

Thanks!

I think I agree that while a little annoying I wouldn't send it back for that. I probably wouldn't notice for quite some time in fact!

There is precedent for me as my S2 has one incredibly tiny red mark/dead pixel(?) on screen (always has) and the earpiece speaker grill is a tiny bit wonky. I've lived with both with no worries for two years.

Who was this with? Was it through retentions also?

EE. I have an advantage plan discount that I got when I worked for DSGi (they owned The Link at the time, that's how long ago it was) and the only reason I'm still with T-Mobile is because I get half price line rental due to this discount.

I just called up and said I wanted to buy out my contract. They obliged and I got a £46 a month contract with 40% off.

I'm not sure what it goes onto here, but I have seen anywhere from 1500-1800kB/s when I have about 3-4bars and an 'H' showing. But it can show about 850kB/s with a weaker signal and an 'H' showing.

That's not actually what I asked. Giffgaff didn't allow tethering either but I had no issues using a few mb a month for a bit of on-train browsing or similar.

Very true, although I downloaded a chunk of games one whilst waiting in the hospital for my sons operation to finish and the sods sent me a warning email! Cheek....
