***The Official HTC One Thread***

Just a heads up for anyone that wants to know, there have been a few nightlies of CM10.1 released. I'm running it now, and it's mostly pretty stable.

Main negative points so far:
Not quite a fast/smooth as a stock/sense based ROM
Camera not quite fully functional (face detection for instance)
A few stability issues
Bluetooth A2DP issues

Got my One from CPW today, looks gorgeous! I gave them my PAC code online, does that mean i just whack the sin in that came with the phone? even though the number printed on it isnt mine?

Had a good look at the one and GS 4 today and I am very impressed with each one for different reasons;

GS 4:

- definitely nicer in person, hate the white model but the black is nice looking. Much prefer it to the GS 3 design, the plastic/metal strip on the sides, decent looking hard button, squarer edges really helps with the aesthetics and to top it all of, the lack of bezel especially on the sides is just spectacular. Not overly fussed on that pattern finish though....
- screen...... just amazing, really wowed me and I couldn't spot any issues with pink tint, red pixels etc. if you like SAMOLED screens then you can't beat this display, the movie/professional modes also work well to give you a more natural LCD look, still not quite to the standards of the one or other LCD displays
- eye scroll actually worked pretty well for me (in the videos it looked rather slow/not as useful) and I really like airview (can see this becoming popular/useful, however, we have to rely upon app developers to implement this in their apps)

Now what really ruined the device(s) for me, lag and slow, out of the 2 handsets that I tried, both felt like I was using an old android phone i.e. GS 1 or a HTC desire , opening apps took like 1-2 seconds (especially the camera app) and scrolling was just jerky, I tried turning of all that smart stuff, but it still remained the same more or less. I am going to put this down to old firmware and being display models though as it shouldn't be that bad! As as you all know, I don't like touchwiz at all :p Apart from the stated reasons before, this just feels even worse, too much like the old versions of sense i.e. too many sub menus, settings etc. to mess about with and just has a gingerbread/froyo feel/look still.

HTC one:

- amazing performance, it was just super smooth and instant throughout, definitely the best android phone for this area imo
- very nice design, however, as kona stated, it just feels/looks too tall and too much bezel. I think I prefer the front design/look of the GS 4 more than the HTC one
- speakers are out of this world (for a mobile device), you really have to hear it for yourself, no phone comes close
- sense V5 is great, does everything I want from it i.e. unified feel, nice looking, great apps/features
- stupid button/logo arrangement and also don't like the power/lock button placement
- screen is really nice, pretty much like the one X screen but sharper :p

Couldn't obviously test the camera out properly on either device or get a proper feel for the devices but from what I could, the one as expected feels more premium and feels like it has better build quality, however, the GS 4 feels more comfortable to use/hold and I like how light it is, GS 4 feels sturdy though.

@Nexus that's what I meant by main drawback it's not much of a drawback, having read and watched many reviews and head to heads that was the only drawback worthy of mention, give the s4 another month of mass beta testing and the sw niggles will be sorted IMO thus 6 and 2 3's.

The screen size difference even accounting for the dots is negligible n still leaves the choice down to screen type preference, if it was me I'd prob go with the s4 because I prefer the design and aesthetics but I think the Ho is very worthy and warrants more success than I'm sure it'll achieve, I wish they'd done much better QC so there would have been happy word of mouth to push the sales on.

They'll do better than last year but will it be enough for HTC as the s4 hasn't faltered and Sam look to be on track to sell 40m+ this year.

Ah! My bad :), just came across like it was a big drawback going for the one over the GS 4.

Personally the logo/button placement for me is a much bigger drawback :o :p

I don't think QC/word of mouth (regarding device issues) will even be a factor to their sales (at least not important enough in order to get them another 5-10 million sales) as said, Samsung have just as many and worse (imo) problems currently and then the one is being rated as "better" than the GS 4 by many many sites/reviews i.e. it has come out on top in every poll so far by quite a bit) but they have sold how many in the first few weeks? :p Most "average joes" won't even consider that tiny tiny gap etc. as an issue (since their current/old device will have more and probably "worse" gaps and not to mention, they probably aren't aware of the zero gap term), however, the same people will/could most likely consider the gs 4 problems as proper issues and then you have all the people who were affected by the sudden death issue on the GS 3 and note II, surely you would think that would have left a bad taste?

I don't think HTC or any one for that matter are expecting to do anywhere as well as the likes of Samsung and Apple, as long as they make lots of profit themselves, which they have/will then they'll be fine, iirc they are expecting to have shipped/sold 4 million devices by the end of this month, that is pretty good "for them"

Also, just goes to show that even Sony with a sub par device compared to the GS 4 and one and its own issues has still sold over 5 million devices....

They need to get the network/phone shops pushing their devices more, when I went to the phone stores today, it was the same old, HTC one shoved with all the other devices where as the galaxy s4 has its very own stand and the device isn't clamped down anywhere as much and you even have a wee display notice beside the phone saying something like "call for assistance to demonstrate the features".... this is where HTC and other companies fail big time and is what cost them their sales, X company could have the very best product by miles, however, what is the point if you have Y company that has a device, which isn't as good but are paying/bribing the shops more in order (more than other companies) to push their devices onto the customers??

Plus HTC need to branch out to more market areas in order to create more brand presence as at the minute, average joes probably view HTC like what we view ZTE etc. :p

Agree about the performance. The ONE, at the moment at least, performs so, so much better than the S4. Everything i do on the ONE is just instant, on the S4...not so much. In fact it felt slower than my S3 in places. :(

You wont notice the pink/red tints/screen uniformity in a brightly lit shop without really looking for it, but i am convinced it will be there for 99% of these phones after scrutinising 5 lined up in P4U and seeing that they all have it to a certain extent. The screen on my ONE is perfectly uniform and the white balance is perfect.

.....I will miss the razzle dazzle of super amoled though. The colours may be more fake but they were like ink which is lovely.

I'm really glad i exchanged my S4 for the ONE though, feels like more of a step up from my S3 than the S4 did. It is also nice to simply have a change as well i guess.

Also, my leather bouletta case arrived from Germany today and i must say it is lovely. Genuine leather (dat smell :D), padded front to protect the screen, magnetic pull tab and the phone fits so snuggly inside it. I would recommend it, and bags4u.eu. I ordered Sunday late at night and it was on my doorstep when i got home from work today. Not bad considering it is from Germany.

I am pretty sure that the units I tried were messed up as this was seriously bad! A 2013 flagship device can't be that bad! :p

I wonder how real world performance is on the exynos version....

True, I probably would have noticed it when at home under dimmer lighting conditions, from reading the GS 4 thread, it sounds like it could just be a software problem for now....

BTW, looks like battery percentage will be coming with 4.2.2 ;)

If only HTC would move to the stock android notification icons now! :p :(

Possibly more good news???

Will the next version of HTC Sense be more stock Android-like?

No worries :) The phone itself is awesome.

Sweet good to hear, I have no idea why I have just chosen Three again after the complete rubbish i just went though.

Wasn't happy with what they were offering on the upgrade so I gave them the 30 days notice which meant i'd be cut off on the 17th June but some useless prat in their customer services decided to cut it off not 5 minutes after I'd been on the phone with them. So now I am completely without a phone for 48 hours due to their incompetence.

Suffice to say I have escalated it & even told the manager that I want a full inquest into the guy who was dealing with the phone call to me due to his negligence.

How hard is it to get two months completely messed up how does May sound like June?!?!

Its just a shame they offer the best service for me else I'd be gone :(

Marketing is everything these days. I was in a supermarket at the weekend and saw blooming big posters announcing the arrival of the Samsung GS4. Nothing from HTC to grab potential customers attention. Majority of phone buyers don't hang around here or other mobile 'forums' and generally buy what they are force fed ... Apple and Samsung.

Downside is these top end phones are getting ever bigger and though very nice, not practical for everybody for day to day use. I've had a sneaky look and though it isn't that much bigger than the One S, the HTC One seems quite a bit bigger :( The 'One' is nice though :D Samsung, HTC, Motorola need to come up with some stonking mid range 4.3"ish phones :D

@Richy888

Indeed and Samsung know fine well how important it is (HTC are catching on but don't have the funds to compete with Samsung) otherwise they wouldn't be throwing a stupid amount of money each year towards it, let alone increasing their budget drastically every time too, as said you could have the very best device, however, it isn't going to sell if you don't have the marketing etc. "as well" in order to push sales etc.

Doesn't just apply to phones either :(, it is the same for everything these days i.e. games, make epic trailers, create so much hype and come to the time of reviews etc. it just fails, same for films too! Where as you could have an epic game of the year i.e. singularity, however, virtually no marketing etc. and it does crap when it comes to sales :(

Yeah the one does "look" big, largely due to the bezel size and front speakers (HTC could have done so much better with reducing the size of the speaker covers etc.) where as the GS 4 despite having a bigger screen looked quite small imo (loved the very thin bezel of it ). The Sony xperia Z looks huge in comparison! But personally I found the one and GS 4 to fit the hand nicely (not as easy to use with one hand compared to smaller devices like the S and razr i) where as the xperia Z is just horrible/uncomfortable to use/hold due to the rectangle slab design :(

I think motorola will have quite a good mid size phone, they generally make good devices all round, with Samsung you are limited to their galaxy S4 mini and ACE 3 which aren't top end phones and the GS 4 mini will cost a fair bit too and not to mention support etc. isn't as good for them. I think HTC will "win" again this year when it comes to mid range/sized device i.e. the mini one/m4, all comes down to price and display panel though!

Battery percentage looks nice, but it would be better if it was on the battery icon instead, I don't want the status bar to be too cluttered :p.

Interesting about the 4.2 update though... Would it be more stock styled compared to the 4.2.2 video leak on the butterfly?

That's certainly quite a common request, have you seen the HTC M4 - should be good for the mid-size folks?

HTC One in a 4.3" format would be brilliant, showed my One to a few friends with the iPhone and while they do like it, they said it was too big.

Asked for one of these as my work phone, got an S3 already as my personal so fancied a change and not the S4. Hope I like it. The whole BlinkFeed looks odd though..
