***The Official HTC One Thread***

Well 3rd time lucky for me...

Mine had an issue with the USB and Three had to send it off for repair but instead of repairing it they replaced it with a new unit and this is the best out of the 3 that I have had

It took 3 attempts but this one is stunning, I also noticed that the battery life is vastly improved on this unit so I guess the USB issue was also causing some battery drain.

after a month of debating what phone to get from these three, samsung galaxy 4,iphone 5,htc one i chose the htc which will be here today at 11 :)

Having been a iphone user for 4 years im quite apprehensive about something else but im sure it will be fine.

guys, any recommendations on a good car holder? Had a look at the official one...looks really nice but seems abit pricey for what it is. Also not sure about the reach arm and whether it will hold the phone with a case on?

cheers

The Osomount car holders seem pretty decent from the reviews. Fits most phones including the Note 2 so should tide you over for a while if you decide to change phone.

I picked up one of the Official HTC car kits recently and am very pleased with it. Holds the phone very securely, charging cable is long enough to mount pretty much wherever and auto-switching on Car mode is natty.....only problem I have noticed is that I sometimes have to wiggle the 12v connector around a bit in the socket to get the right connection (i.e. charging) and that if I have Maps open, with Traffic and Satellite layers, the phone seems to use more power than the charger supplies on a trip from Poole to Brentford (around 96 miles). Either the phone is really using power, or the charger is not powerful enough.......the phone gets pretty hot, too!

I've found that my car charger sometimes doesn't provide enough power for the phone to charge aswell. Must be due to the big screen and google maps/ nav using lots of power.

Talking about the phone getting hot, I was at a festival at the weekend and had the phone out for about 10 mins in the sun and it was boiling! The metal case really heats up :)

Just received my HTC ONE after i broke my S4 and i have to say i already prefer it. It feels nicer and just seems more responsive in general day to day tasks like messaging etc. Although does anyone elses get a little warm on the back near the camera?

+1 with the car charger, My 1 amp does not cut it with Sat Nav etc looking for a 2amp (10w) charger, that should making things better

Edit: Anyone received 4.2 in the UK yet ?

Does the HTC One official car kit (D160 I think) come with the charge cable? if so how long is it and is it straight or coiled?

I noticed when charging the phone indoors with a 2A charger that the One doesn't draw any more than 1A.

Nice pics Jono8.

Still stuck on ancient 1.28 FW here.

I currently have a Nexus 4 and am considering a HTC Once to replace it. I have some questions/concerns, most of which I suspect have already been answered but the thread is too long to look through, so i'll just try and ask everything in one go.

1. One of my biggest annoyances with the Nexus 4 is quiet sound via headphones. I have good headphones and it's noticeably quieter than an iPhone. I know the One has Beats audio. Is the sound nice and loud via headphones?

2. Video recording - The quality is pretty decent on the Nexus 4, but it struggles to record loud bass in clubs etc. Will the One cope with this better?

3. Camera quality - How does it compare to the Nexus 4? I know it has those 'Ultrapixels', are the really a big difference compared to regular cameras?

4. Sense vs Stock - I've only every used stock Android. Is Sense on the One any good in comparison to Stock android?

5. Build quality - I love the look of the metal unibody on the One. However I want the black one and am worried about the metal getting scratched. How resistant is it to scratches & chips? I know black aluminium has been known to get damaged and reveal the silver underneath on other phones/devices.

I think that's all of my main concerns. If theres anything else I should be aware of please let me know, my Nexus 4 is only my first Android phone so any major differences between the stock android and Sense on the One would be great to know.

Thanks.

Is the sound nice and loud via headphones? I have found the sound output on the One to be the best of any handset I have used. It can chuck out some decent volume and drives my Shure SE315s very capably

2. Video recording - The quality is pretty decent on the Nexus 4, but it struggles to record loud bass in clubs etc. Will the One cope with this better?
The video I have recorded - including Bon Jovi @ Hyde Park last Friday - has had excellent sound, both in dynamic range and quality. That said, later One handsets may not have the funky HD Mics that HTC and Nokia have been arguing over....

3. Camera quality - How does it compare to the Nexus 4? I know it has those 'Ultrapixels', are the really a big difference compared to regular cameras? For me, the camera shots are pretty decent. I am more than happy with my One as a everyday camera, and it comes into its own in low light with the OIS

4. Sense vs Stock - I've only every used stock Android. Is Sense on the One any good in comparison to Stock android?
The latest version of Sense is a big improvement on earlier implementations, IMHO. The look is cleaner and slicker, yet retaining the excellent integration features

5. Build quality - I love the look of the metal unibody on the One. However I want the black one and am worried about the metal getting scratched. How resistant is it to scratches & chips? I know black aluminium has been known to get damaged and reveal the silver underneath on other phones/devices.
Can't comment on the black model, as I have silver, but the build quality is excellent on my handset. There have been issues reported, so mileage may vary, but - again, for me - I am very pleased with the solidity and fit of my One

I think that's all of my main concerns. If theres anything else I should be aware of please let me know, my Nexus 4 is only my first Android phone so any major differences between the stock android and Sense on the One would be great to know.

1. One is regarded as having one of the best, if not the best audio quality via headphones and loudspeakers (no phone comes close with the loudspeaker, just can't beat front facing stereo speakers that have dedicated amps)

2. Far better, the one has the best mic. on an android smartphone by miles, using nokia's tech.

Although, once HTC's stock with that mic. tech runs out they have to find another mic. to use, no idea if this has happened yet and what it is being replaced with

3. Better overall compared to the nexus 4, main areas being a much better camera app, way more features, better hardware overall, main areas where it is better will be faster focus, capture more usable shots (due to OIS and very fast shutter), wider FOV, superior image stabilisation, superb macro and low light shots etc.

Only downside is lack of MP so cropping/zooming in won't be as good.

4. imo sense is the best skin by a long shot compared to stock and every other skin

- better unified feel throughout in terms of app layout and colour scheme
- some of the apps are amazing and imo no 3rd party apps are as good, such as the browser (quick thumb controls + flash player works + very fast and smooth + plenty of options + text reflow when you pinch to zoom and double tap), gallery and camera (feature rich)
- fastest and smoothest skin to date imo (even better than the nexus 4 from my experience)
- looks nice, has a minimal clean professional look throughout

5. If you're rough with the phone i.e. throw it in a pocket with keys, coins etc. then it could get scratched

There are videos on youtube where it holds up very well though....

But if it does get properly scratched then yes you will see the "raw" silver aluminium, if this happens, I find a black sharpie works great to cover the marks up :p

Overall the build quality is more or less superior to the nexus 4 (QC issues is a different matter) and if you have a tiny gap where the speaker grille meets the rest of the metal body, this is normal, not an issue like many say, it is not part of the CNC machined body thus is stuck on with glue, only be concerned if it feels lose and the gap is actually 1mm or bigger!

Thanks guys, I'm literally on the verge of ordering one now! Just wondering how much I will be able to get for my Nexus 4 to lessen the damage as I will be buying the One SIM free and popping my giffgaff SIM in there :)

Plenty of phone recycling places out there, including at least one comparison website.....

~ £100 - pretty darn low. Note 1 is still £115 on Mazuma.

Apparently CEX will do it for £170 but I always have problems getting money out of them, they always want to do store credit, which I don't want. If I can get rid of it for £150 i'll be happy

Has anyone actually received Android 4.2.2 on their HTC One yet? So many websites are saying that it has hit the UK but i'm yet to see it on mine!
