***The Official HTC One Thread***

Well Kit Kat has improved my battery life.

However its broke the outlook app, it now simply says no connection whether I am on wifi or 3g.

Outlook is fine for me with 4.4 and whatever three uk have thrown in there.

Are there any must have cases which aren't bulky and don't look like something a child would carry around?
I think the Poetic Atmospheres are the most bought slimline case. Cant comment myself as I have a chunky monkey case.

Outlook works fine for me as well.

Poetic Atmosphere is pretty slim and doesn't add too much bulk, I have a couple of these. If you prefer flip cases then I found the Poetic FlipBook pretty slim as well compared to the official HTC flip case.

CaseMate BarelyThere will give it more grip, but won't offer much protection if you drop it.

For that you'd probably want an Incipio or Otterbox case, but they do add a bit of bulk.

Have T-mobile devices got the kitkat update yet? i have a T-MOB101 cid and nothing yet...

Also, where have all the quality cases gone, do you guys recomend any that doesnt ruin the aesthetics of this awesome phone?

Hey guys, quick question.

If I was to buy an HTC One that is on a specific network, and I wanted to get rid of all the branding etc. is it simply just a matter of flashing a custom ROM? ViperOne ROM for example?

I would want the phone to be as if I bought a factory unlocked one, but with a custom ROM; so just wondering if installing the ROM totally wipes any traces of data that is associated with the original network the phone was on.

Thanks.

Yes it will remove all branding but it won't unlock your phone. You can probably get a cheap code on ebay to unlock it though (I haven't checked).

Thanks. Wasn't too bothered about the unlocking as there are codes around for £1 :)

I wasn't sure if I had S-off the phone as well to be certain all the previous network files would be gone.

Really don't know what to do with this phone. I like it for the most part, but the camera is absolutely terrible for a premium handset. Maybe mine is faulty, I don't know.

Any alternatives to this phone for a good camera and decent battery life?

The camera is ok, certainly not as good as my S3 camera was (low light is the exception though but it still aint great there)

The colours, sharpness and general clarity are sub par compared to some older handsets.

Having said that I can live with it, the S3 was a great phone destroyed by a crap interface with so much bloat.

You only really need to s-off if you want to upgrade/downgrade your firmware.

I would highly recommend it however, it (along with flashing firmwares) is the only thing that can brick your phone if it goes wrong. It's pretty much all automated so it is VERY difficult to do but it's something to bare in mind.

I think the camera is excellent. My bros S3 camera pales in comparison.

Apparantly an update is out now (ends in .11), with the changelog stating it was fixing compatibility with some routers. I guess that was the problem that caused HTC to pull the previous KK update. People on XDA reports Vodafone UK is getting the update.

Nothing for HTC__001 on the other hand... the wait begins.

Thanks for the 'heads up'... Just checked my phone this morning (in Software Updates) and the update was waiting for me!

I am downloading it now, and it reckons it will take about 17 minutes.

Edit: Yes, I am with Vodafone, and running completely 'stock'!

I have update 4.20.771.17 available. One update is to remove support for flash in browser. Surely this is not a good thing?

KitKat removed a few APIs which prevents Flash from working, even if the browser supports it, it still won't run due to this.

Flash however still works with a few work arounds:

1) Install Firefox. It somehow gets flash working again, I assume it has the missing APIs within itself to get it working.

2) Install Dolphin and a modded version of flash.

Yeah I'll probably experiment with all that stuff when I get my hands on one.

As it stands though I just can't decide: Black or Silver? I just don't know as they both look good but also have pros and cons...
