***The Official HTC One Thread***

Posting this from my HTC One, it was delivered on the 15th by phones4u but to my parents address. I managed to pick it up yesterday.

Very impressed so far, I'm coming from a Galaxy S2 so most of my comparisons are with that. Having a metal phone instead of plastic feels superb, it's extremely quick and intuitive in terms of menus etc. Getting used to not having a menu button will probably take a few days but I can't see it being an issue.

Screen is very sharp, and the speakers are unreal for a phone, good bass response and very loud. I haven't tested the camera out much yet, but it definitely captures a lot of light.

If anyone wants any particular comparisons/photos/comments etc just ask, I'm a bit busy to do an in depth review at the moment!

Been following HTC one and S4 and as much as I like the S4 I am tempted to get the ONE. For a change TBH, I currently have N4 but had the S3,S2,S,Note so want to move away from Samsung, My only issue with HTC is the locked bootloader at launch.

Ditto here... the size and design are just excellent. Only issue I have is that I am very much used to expandable storage and transferring music and videos directly form the card reader in my PC. Not a ocmplete deal-breaker given how often I do that, but annoying nonetheless. Battery life seems at worst average with the 2300mah battery, and can likely be improved with tweaking.

There's no menu tweak that I've managed to find, however due to the size of the screen the three dot menu bar at the bottom isn't much of an eyesore at all. A lot of apps also have a three dot menu button at the top right instead of the bar.

I'll take some pictures throughout the day and put them up tonight.

I hear )read) the case scratches quite easily... do you have your eye on a case for it?

Hmm shame that but as you said, with the big screen and a high res. it probably doesn't look as bad... Still highly frustrating though especially when you have apps that have the 3 dot menu button on the top right as well as on the bottom. Just don't get why htc removed the tweak

Ok thanks! :)

I tried using 4 cases with my one S but they always just came of after 1-3 weeks (longest was for about 2-4 months with the tough/diztronic case), you just can't beat the aluminium uni-body quality by HTC :p

I've not encountered any of these yet, it has always been one or the other.

I'm still using my S2 as the SIM hasn't switched yet, and it feels horrendously cheap and tacky! I never noticed when it was my only phone but switching between them makes it very obvious.

Seriously tempted by this phone, had my cheap dying zte blade for about 2 years, 6 months just need to see what the custom ROM community for it is like.

Good man. :p

The 3 dot menu is currently a deal breaker for me though, it will drive me up the wall all over again. :(

The remap option is usually under Settings > Display, check them all carefully!

I have around 70-80 apps installed and these are the apps that have the 3 dot menu button on the bottom, can't remember which ones have both but pretty sure at least half of them did:

Although I have uninstalled quite a few of those now and plus use the sense apps mainly so the list wouldn't be quite as big now.

And of course some may have been updated to remove the 3 dot menu button since then.

Either that or HTC have done something from their end with sense V5 so when it detects that there is already a 3 dot menu button on the top right, they disable the bottom bar? I'll check later to see which app has both and if you could try/install it just to confirm if something has been done regarding that?

Yup, gs 2 whilst built very well and extremely durable does feel very cheap now.

The build/perceived and design are the things that you really do tend to appreciate the most over the the months/years of ownership (well for me anyway :p)

Yeah it's definitely not there, the only option under 'Buttons' is to modify the double-click speed.

Snowstorm weather has both.

Pretty sure whatsapp did as well but no longer has now, so must have been fixed with the recent update that brought the holo/ICS UI.

Went through that list again and the really annoying thing is that it will have the 3 dot menu button, however, there is actually no "menu" so when you press it nothing happens.......

Of them I have:

AirDroid - has the 3 dot bar at the bottom and a settings button top right.
WhatsApp - Appears to only have the 3 dot button at the top right, but I'm still at the phone number confirmation screen until the SIM switches so I'm not sure whether this will be the same throughout the app.

Of course, not a problem.

What about under developer options?

Nope.

Ya battery life might be a concern (ONE X had some serious battery issues initially but were fixed).

I am not bothered about the looks but TBH this phone looks very nice. Will wait for the 29th have a play with it to see what it feels like. Earlier this month I got the chance to play with one (HTC REP had one) and it was blazing fast.

It is indeed very fast. I'll comment about battery life later in the week once I'm using it as my main phone. I'm hoping it can't be any worse than my S2 which was needing charged by mid-afternoon most days!
