***The Official HTC One Thread***

Another review in with some decent camera shots. Mostly what other have said already, High noise levels, loss of detail etc

While some pictures are really good others are mediocre. Quote from the review

"However, for most people they'll be overjoyed with the photo quality on the HTC One. The combination of fast shooting, accurate focus, sharp continuous shooting and a nippy HDR mode, combined with photos that look good on the phone screen, will impress many."

I personally am not that bothered about the camera, Yes it could've been better but TBH it's not the deal breaker for me. I have hardly ever used my phone as the primary camera for important occasions and for odd shots here and there I think HTC One will do just fine.

What settings for the camera does everyone suggest?

Oooh, the browser supports flash pretty much perfectly.... This phone is the shizzle.

Another good example of where HTC is losing out on its brand; my local CPW has phones by brand - Apple, Samsung, Nokia and then "Other Brands" where HTC lives along with Doppo/Alcatal/Huawei/ZTE

Congrats stoosh.

Does it feel noticeably faster than a i9305 on a modded rom?

Thanks Mate, I'd say it's the same there's no advantage on either device speed wise. It does get hot very quickly though almost to an uncomfortable level

Secondly the back button is sometimes unresponsive, this happens intermittently, think I'll give P4U a call tomorrow and see if the phone can be returned for a replacement. URGH!!!!!

Thankfully I have my N4 as a backup which is a saving grace I suppose.

expected tbh :) we have reached a level where cpu is not really that important.. even gpu is nothing to worry about.

seriously my galaxy s2 still runs all the latest games, jb is fluid and everything just works :) the only improvement we could see here is power efficiency which gets improved every time a new set of cpu's is released.

^Yeah I agree, the only thing that matters is RAM as apps don't have to be shut down when the phone starts to run out of memory. I won't accept anything less than 2GB RAM in any of my future devices, I don't really care for CPUs and GPUs.

indeed

And best of all........... quick ics controls, which are modded to be even better!

The setting is under labs on sense V4+, not sure about V5........

Those 3 main things (the other being text reflow) amongst standard things like being fast/smooth, no text/page rendering problems, nice/plain UI (pretty much stock android just skinned) are what make the sense browser the best there is.

Didn't realise that......... not good :/

Sorry to hear that stoosh, sucks when things like that happen :( Hopefully P4U will sort it out ASAP! Look on the bright side, you might get one that has an even better camera :D :p

Amen. 2GB RAM is the mutts...

I find that where you can notice the speed improvement with a faster processor is when installing big apps. iirc the S3 is noticeably fast than the S2 in this area.

Silver looks the best and not because I just bought one. I initially went for the black and usually go for black phones but it just didn't grab me this time round. You can hardly see the features of the One on the black phone, for some reason the contrast between the black screen and silver speaker grills top and bottom look great, but it's all a matter of taste.

@Nexus I haven't been able to do a video test yet, but here's a link to a 1080p back camera sample. I hope it will suffice.

Thanks for that mate.
I'm going to start sounding like a broken record here but WHY can't HTC sort out their metering? This camera, on paper, has so much potential but it looks like in typical HTC fashion they will mess it up. At this point it's pretty safe to say that the camera is HTC's kryptonite.

I'd echo that! software can solve a lot of these problems thankfully.

the front facing camera, on the other hand, looks superb. To be fair I've never seen a good one, there mght be others better out there but as an additional camera it's pretty good and nice and wide.

I'm really overexcited at the prospect of this phone now. I must have read a dozen reviews already.

Anyone else pre-order through mobilephonesdirect.co.uk before or O2? Do we think the current launch dates of the week after Easter will stick?

That's the way it goes sometimes I suppose :(

I called P4U this morning and they were extremely helpful and are sending out a replacement when they receive my phone. What's worth noting is that the back button issue isn't just on my phone but the Tech guy stated that he spoke to someone else with the same complaint. I guess it's the usual grief you get with first batches of stock.

Camera wise I was quite pleased with the results so if I get a phone that has a camera that is improved on the first then that's cool :D

Thanks for that mate.

No worries Dude :)

HTC have always been pretty "mediocre" when it comes to video, they aren't able to optimise their software to take advantage of their camera tech. It's strange but you very much hit it on the head when you said that the camera is HTC's kryptonite.
