*** The official HTC One X thread ***

Well I don't think it's a coincidence, since getting rid of HTC Sense I've had my highest screen on time in one charge, at 46%, took off charge at 84, 14 and a half hours in, just over 3 hours screen on time, not bad!

Is that dumping Sense or changing Roms though... I had Leedroid w/o Sense and it was ok but since I switched to ARHD also w/o Sense its been crazy good battery. I have to think I have changed some setting or something but with Leedroid I had tasker to switch off certain things at times (like WiFi off when I was at work) and I have yet to put it back like that for ARHD. Its difficult to always be sure what makes the difference!

I just put RomCleaner on and wiped Sense off of my current ARHD install and whacked GoLauncher EX on.

I save a hell of a lot of battery life turning the data network off too, the phone uses next to nothing when screen is off.

I'm thinking of getting a One X and returning my One S due to poor call quality (first handset was really awful and the second is just not good enough).

Does anyone know if the call quality is better on the One X?

Doesnt turning data off defeat the object of a smartphone? Or did you mean 2G/3G when connected to WiFi or 2G/3G/WiFi when screen off?

Some may say that but then again...what's the point in having it on when it's in your pocket? You want to receive phone calls and texts more than anything else, right? I generally have my data off unless the phone's in my hand and being used for that purpose...

But hey, that's just me. There's different schools of thought on this.

IMHO, you'd be pretty dumb to jump in for 4G on EE right now. The One XL runs LTE at 1800 (EE have) and 2600 (nobody has yet till auction complete). No mention of 800 in specs which is arguably the more interesting band as it has in building penetration.

Personally I'd wait till post 4G auction in UK - most operators will have 4G and with 800MHz frequency it ought to be better.

Oh good grief.. (my job taught me so thats my excuse)

This is what makes me laugh. 99% of consumers have no idea what they are buying. Just listen to the idiot who says "Three coverage is crap so I went to Orange" not knowing that Three's signal is carried on Orange on the 2G frequencies and arguably Three's 3G network is one of the best.

High frequencies carry more data but struggle to get into buildings well. Hence most 3G coverage indoors isnt so good.

Low frequencies carry less data but get into buildings well.

All MNOs have 2100mhz for 3G.

The map is such

800mhz - up for auction - 4G
900mhz - 02/Voda - 2G services but O2 run 3G on this too
1800mhz - mainly EE (Orange/TMo) but O2/Voda have a little - 2G but 4G soon for EE
2100mhz - everyone - 3G only
2600mhz - up for auction - 4G

Thanks for the info but sound like an ITish type of response where, like most of them, have an opinion of the consumer that is way too harsh.

"99% of consumers have no idea what they are buying."

I know what I'm buying, I'm buying a faster phone connection that is newer/better/faster and will be an improvement over what I currently have. I'm not the average consumer but how could someone ever expect the consumer to want/need to know about the mhz band/spectrum of their network and call them an "idiot" for not knowing?!

Ok maybe calling them an idiot is harsh but what they are saying is crap in that situation. Sure you know the PHONE you're buying but not the underlying network you are getting.

A good experiment for you. Take a smart phone with the signal strength indicator set to Db and not bars. Try a SiM from each network inside your house. Look at results. You might be surprised how much they vary.

I should have phrased it better. "99% of consumers have no idea what network service they are buying".

A lot was made about how poor the iPhone 4 reception was. People forget that a mobile network has more than one component.

just got my HOX today yay!!! Finally bit the bullet and got one, hummed and harred over this and the SGS3 for ages but I prefer Sense to touchwiz and also the look of the handset, the lack of expandable memory and battery put me off for a while but in the end its not a real issue, 32gb should be more than enough and is what I was used to with my sensation, i was thinking was it really worth the upgrade from the sensation to the one x but now ive actually got it in hand i think it is. Bought it as a Grade B Refurb for £220, not a mark on it and even has a screen protector fitting (properly, well better than ive ever managed) and am going to go to Tesco this evening and get a sim only card for £12.50 a month on a monthly rolling contract so if anything new comes out in the near future im ready to pounce :D So far I cant see any issues with the handset that Ive read aboutbut ive got 60 days to return it for refund if I wanted
