*** The official HTC One X thread ***

Going to the shops now to try to get them both in my hand...just don't know whether to get the X or S.. which one feels the more 'premium'? There seems to be different opinions on both about the feel...

I think the feel is going to be a personal thing. Got the One X and actually likes how it feels.

Re battery life, on first charge it seems to be going down rather quickly so will be interesting to see if it improves after a few charge cycles.

What is this obsession with a few people suggesting the S3 will be so much more superior? Is it not expected to be unveiled in a few weeks?

I don't think it will be that much better, I prefer LCD to AMOLED screens anyway and I doubt the design will be any better (or even as good) if Samsung's phone history is anything to go by.

Played with the One X yesterday at the carphone warehouse. Very nice handset and looks a lot better in white (never been a white handset fan before). Due for an upgrade from my desire in june and pretty much set on the One x in white.

ME TOO!

Seriously though, it has actually booted up once or twice in the past few days. Now it just hangs on the loading screen.

Yeah, mine is just pure xxxx now, probably due to how long it has been since I have done a reformat and fresh ROM install. The launcher reloads after you come out of any slightly demanding app, then to load apps that aren't in the memory it takes like 25 secs and I have the odd time where the mobile just doesn't respond at all so battery pull which then results in a boot loop etc.

I have timed how long it takes for the market to load from the start as in not already in memory/background and it takes 30 secs! just to load the main market app fully! Lol........... :o

I also can't see the S3 being much better than the X especially the screen and "perceived quality" of the phone, unless Samsung have got some new screen tech or done something very special, HTC will have won the best screen for this year IMO.

Hardware wise there all the same nowadays really, the S3 will probably have 2GB RAM just for the sake of being the flagship mobile with quad core and possibly a 1800mAh battery with a 12MP camera and software wise from what I have seen of sense so far and my 15 minute play with it yesterday and going by Samsungs software in the past :p, I can't see touchwiz beating sense :p

My friend just called me whilst I was at work and said she was at the phone shop and was about to choose her upgrade there and then. It was between the GS2, Note and the One X. I said the One X. She's used my GS2 with ICS and liked it, but she's upgrading from a Desire so it seemed the logical step.. Hopefully I did right :p

You can purchase a phone charger rather than additional batteries. With each battery giving you 24 hours use i am sure you sleep at some point during those hours, plug it in.

I still dont understand all the people moaning about battery life on these phones, my desire is 2 years old, i stream a lot of vids/music on it and browse a lot and yet it never dies during the day n i just plug it in every night,

There are times when you forget to charge or cannot charge battery becasue you are outside and you need your phone as a GPS, internet access or watching a video on train or during a flight. More handy having a battery than a charger.

I'll wait to see what the SGS 3 brings and might just get the One X and sell it on, my SGS still does all I need it for including having a replaceable battery.

I agree a Friday night I'll start work, finish at 4-5 go straight to the bar. Go back, get changed then straight out again.

Not getting in till 3-4am sometimes later.

With my desire it was dead by 8-9. Total gutting when you need to phone a taxi, so end up walking home :(

I think it was the software on the Desire that killed the battery. I could get a day and half on mine after installing stock ICS and put a bigger battery in which helped.

Here's a recipe for the ultimate superphone using 2012 ingredients.

Mix all the major technological advances together.

  • New low power fabrication process for chips and modems (28-32nm)
  • Faster/more efficient ARMv7 CPU architecture (Krait/Cortex A15)
  • Big battery technology (2500mAh-3500mAh but still maintaining that lovely 9mm/140g chassis)

Add 'must have' high end features.

  • 4.3"+ 720p screen. (either high end IPS or AMOLED will do)
  • Aluminium/polycarbonate unibody (well designed, great build quality with that 'premium feel' and taste)
  • micro SD card slot (Essential for me anyway, 64GB is only £45 atm)

Sprinkle in some desirable options:

  • Powerful CABAC 1080p encoding (better compression)
  • A decent DAC/Audio (like the SGS/wolfson combo please)
  • Waterproof nanocoating (about time OEMs fully deployed this across the high end)
  • Dedicated camera button for fast capture. (It's gooood)
  • 8MP+ BSI sensor with sharp optics (Meh, everything else this year is minor upgrade bar PureView)
  • Fast GPU (They're all good enough for 720p, no biggie)

Preheat oven to 180 degrees C and bake for 30 mins.

Let Galaxy S3 cool for 5 minutes before serving with large whiskey.

(Only the new Evo/XL, maybe X/S has come close so far, the iPhone 6 could have most of those specs too, bar the obvious)

So what kind of battery life are people getting in real world use?

Unplugged this morning at 09:15 at 100%
Currently (at 18:30) at 52%

Usage:
3x 3-5 min phone calls
1 episode of The Apprentice on iPlayer
approx 45 mins of "Wheres my Water?"
approx 5 mins of searching for / installing various apps from the market
approx 3 mins of googlemaps / gps usage

In my mind that is very light usage and compares somewhat similarly to how my old Samsung GS2 was pre extended battery purchase.

Not brilliant, but by no means terrible either.

That sounds pretty damn good to me.

I went into 3 today and had a play with both the One S and One X.

The One X felt really nice, had a good premium feeling to it, it has a convex glass finish to it. The S is flat as far as I remember, and the screen (To me) didn't feel as nice to use as the convex version the X has. The S itself is more comfortable to hold in your hand due to the size of it. The white version of the X felt nicer and looked better (imo) where as the grey S was good. Both were very responsive and nice to use. The browser feature where the text changes to fit onto the screen is strange to adjust to, but it isn't as bad as what the guy made it out to be in a previous video review, definitely nothing wrong with it and the phone is still a pleasure to browse on.

I was very tempted to buy 1, but after talking to 1 of the guys in another store (CPW) he suggested to wait and see what the SGS3 brings to the table, and also that HTC will be realeasing another phone soon (Assuming the One XL). Always a waiting game, but if the SGS3 doesn't have some spectacular specs, I will be picking up a HTC One X or One XL.
