*** The official HTC One X thread ***

The new HTC handsets look great and the specifications also impress, not sure I could get used to a non AMOLED screen though as Android is prodominantly blacks throughout the UI.

I would prefer to run stock Android 4.x, but my concern is losing the reportedly great camera performance as I would bet some of that is down to HTC's additional software.

Obviously there will be builds of stock Android for the handset but it will be very hard for any HTC camera improvements to be included.

There is a rumour going around that the Sprint and T-Mobile(US network) version of the phone will run stock ICS. Even if it doesn't make it's way over here officially it will certainly be available...

Hold up. So am I reading it right that the supposedly lower range S has the potential to outstrip the line topping X performance wise?

Can someone, in layman terms point out the main differences of the 2 phones please as its confusing :)

To save kona the hassle....

Compare a dual core Sandybridge against a quad core Llano, the same applies here.

The S4 snapdragon has fast new architecture (Krait vs cortex A9) and a die shrink (28nm vs 40nm) It's been designed to compete against cortex A15 SoCs we'll see in 2013.
The S4 has a huge advantage in lightly threaded applications and remains competitive in highly threaded ones, like the browser.

This is all at a low clock speeds too, the S4 has been designed to run at 2.5Ghz. People prepared to root will get a massive performance boost.

Add the 28nm modems and you have a killer phone SoC.

Yep, HTC have nailed it. Good screens, great design, lighter skins, fast SoCs. Only the small batteries are disappointing, typical HTC :p

Actually, the big stand out this year has been design (Sony too) God bless the Nokia N9/800/900, no more iPhone 4 clones!

Question is... can Samsung design a great looking phone made from fancy materials? They got the technology, now lets see some class. :)

so whats the point in using a tegra 3 quad core? thanks for the info though. what phones will have this S4 cpu?

Kona: There's no physical difference, one has the cdma/lte modems deactivated.

Jonney: Like llano tegra 3 is cheap and is a solid all rounder. It also has mass market appeal, you assumed it was miles faster right? This'll change when everyone moves into 2ghz+ dual core A15s, Qualcomm will just bump clock speeds to match.

so whats the point in tegra 3. might as well get a dual core then!

if there is a big price difference (18 month contract) then i will go for the S rather than the X

im on the desire hd now, so either would be an upgrade and i cant decide wither i want a larger 720p screen and a larger battery more than an amoled screen...

i still consider the desire hd to be a powerful phone now, im just worried getting the one S may not be that good in another 18 months time :(

Any of them will be a tasty upgrade from my 2 year old Desire. TBH, the only grumble I have with the Desire is having to hack it to get access to more app storage space. Apart from that, it does everything I need.

I'm also considering the S as it's a bit cheaper (£26 a month vs. £31), slimmer (7.8mm vs 9.2 or something) and made from metal.

Although saying that I'll have to wait for the SIII to be officially announced before ordering anything.
