*** The official HTC One X thread ***

Have you searched through the "Essential Android Apps" thread. There are literally tens and tens of decent music apps mentioned in there.

n7 music player is supposed to be one of the best out there at the moment. Not tried it myself, but going by people's comments on it over the web :)

Seriously tempted to take my One X back for a refund. So full of bugs it's unreal. Screen issues with flickering, though mine doesn't seem as bad as many, but it's the software that's putting me off. I don't even know where to start with the number of issues.

Hum, I don't have screen flicker and overall my handset is completely flawless. Not noticed anything wrong with it at all. Maybe it's the software version you're on?

Can you describe your issues for reference please??

Yeh sorry did mean to do that but was trying to get the kids off to sleep at the same time.

It's probably not *really* bad but I'm just annoyed.

It looks like there's a memory leak somewhere because a "close apps and restart" gives me about 375Mb free, but after a couple of days of average use (a bit of browsing, a handful of SMS, little bit of Angry Birds, viewing Facebook through the app and even making a couple of calls) I have just 150Mb-ish free even when only the basic sync/google services are running.

And that looks to be just not enough for Sense, because I get Sense reloading almost *every* time I hit the home button, and general unresponsiveness, where widgets and apps will just not respond to a touch. Seems the only way to get apps working is to hit the task switcher and reselect them....Not all the time, but enough to be annoying on a flagship handset.

On top of that it ignores some settings, like the lock screen always shows the "wallpaper" option, even though the settings shows "(current)" against the weather screen. Does the same if I pick any of the others too.

And, after closing an app by swiping off the screen, sometimes the app suddenly returns full-screen and running a couple of seconds later.

So it looks like I'll have to do a full "close apps and restart" every day or two, something I've never had to do before :(

Apart from that I'm not sure about the hardware of my particular handset...

There's the screen flickering, which isn't too bad compared to some I've seen, although it does feel like auto-brightness just can't quite make up its mind sometimes.....especially in the Google Play apps, the thumbnails loaded when picking an app to view - they change brightness several times as they load. Not the rest of the page though, just the thumbnails.

I think my notification LED doesn't actually light up, despite being turned on for all the options. Not sure I've ever seen it light up for a message/missed call etc, though it does light up for charging/charge complete, so something is working at least!

So I'm not sure if there's a hardware issue with the screen on mine, plus maybe the notification LED if the calls/messages options displays as something other than orange or green.

On the plus side, the screen is fantastic, call quality excellent, wifi signal strength the best of any phone I've ever had, and when it's not lagging it goes like the clappers.

I'm hoping it's the software and an update will fix it. From what I see on other forums it looks like that's a possibility. I'm on 1.26.401.2.

The only apps I've installed other than updating some of the preinstalled ones are Angry Birds, Google Sky Map, Google Reader, iPlayer and AnTuTus "Smart Profiles free". I uninstalled Smart Profiles though cause while it worked I got the impression both that it was a battery hog and there are better options out there.

Oh, and that's another plus, the battery life is actually really good given the spec of the phone!

Stop stressing over Ram use, Android doesn't differentiate between ram used as cache and actual ram used for apps. That's why ram always looks full as Android uses as much ram as you've got as a cache, but this will be released if ever the phone needs it.

As for the lag, try going to developer options and tick don't keep activities, then got browse round the phone and open and close a couple of apps, then go back to developer options and untick it. Restart the phone and see if that has helped.

I haven't restarted it once since I've got it and I usually have about 300MB free. Ultimately having over 100MB free is always going to be fine as Android manages all of this quite intelligently and it will adjust things as required to keep things smooth. Or at least it should be doing.

And that looks to be just not enough for Sense, because I get Sense reloading almost *every* time I hit the home button, and general unresponsiveness, where widgets and apps will just not respond to a touch. I haven't had a single responsiveness issue and Sense has never reloaded. That sounds like a software error.

Mine behaves fine.

You shouldn't have to do this.

If you aren't happy with it, exchange it. Don't pay for something that is faulty.

Sounds like a software issue as well.

I'd suggest a factory reset, I think most of those problems are software related. The software is buggy in places and by no means perfect, but your examples are far more serious than run of the mill problems. If that doesn't help, definitely get it replaced.

Am I missing something regarding that video?

Weird that it slightly chops the sides of the screen though (look at the clock), does the same on my One X with my Samsung MHL cable.

Does the LED only use red and green? I've got SMS popup and I was hoping to use that to change the colour of the LED to something else but it's always green for notifications even if you set it to blue or something...
