***The Official HTC Sensation thread***

interesting - although who in their right mind would hold an expensive mobile like in that video!

Landscape mode it would have at least one some parts of the plastic on the rear cover exposed too....

Admittedly, the problem may not be as severe when holding the device normally in portrait mode, however, in landscape mode you will have a hard time avoiding the antennas on the back.

Now a certain amount of attenuation is expected when you cover the antennas and manufacturers always put a warning in their user guides on the (im)proper way to hold the phone. But in this case the attenuation is way too high and is greatly impacting the performance, and thus the credibility, of the device.

Apparently the US version has an extra antenna and it doesn't affect it as much, too.

Ha, I thought it was only mine. Have to be careful how I hold the phone, especially at the top as otherwise I lose all phone signal and my wifi becomes very poor!

Really?

Oh dear! :(

I think the big underlying problem with this is that many people put the phone in a case, so if when in a case it ruins the wifi/BT/network signal, that would not be good news at all.

I wouldn't say that it has been 'discussed to death', people are still none the wiser at the moment, but it seems to be a clear design fault like the iPhone 4 had.

Well bearing in mind some users have the phone already on XDA (more so than the users here) most are saying its a non-issue. ONE site has reported problems with it - which I can't believe wasn't picked up on before - unlike the iphone 4G - Where EVERYONE picked up on the really bad reception.....

To quote HTC:

Quality in industrial design is of key importance to HTC. To ensure the best possible signal strength, antennas are placed in the area least likely to be covered by a person's face or hands while the phone is in use.

However, it is inevitable that a phone's signal strength will weaken a little when covered in its entirety by a user's palm or fingers. We test all of our phones extensively and are confident that under normal circumstances reception strength and performance will be more than sufficient for the operation of the phone when network coverage is also adequate

Most mobiles suffer from some form of reception loss when you completely cover a handset - How big are your hands that you can manage to cover the whole of one of these phones!?! ;)

There is one person in this thread saying they have a problem, and one person in that thread saying they have a problem. There is one person in that thread saying its all rubbish and they don't have a problem.

So either way it hasn't been tested properly yet, I'm just saying it doesn't sound good.

The iPhone 4 reception problem was blown out of proportion because its Apple, the actual problem isn't that bad and could be replicated on a lot of other phones to a similar extent, though it wasn't quite as potent.

Look on the vodafone forums - Thats currently where we are going to find the highest concentration of Sensation users with 'faulty antennas'. Nothing major to report - trust me Vodafone users are usually up in arms with stuff like this.

Two of my colleagues have the HTC Sensations - neither of which report this issue - tried it myself - no issue.

So looking into the other thread HTC V's Sensation - you own an SGSII. I see where you biased views come from........No wonder all you do is post negative in this thread.

I've even got retweets from Robbo in my Twitter feed slagging the Sensation off - and I don't have him on Twitter! He's as obsessed with the Sensation as he used to be with the iPhone. ;)

Re the 'Death Grip'. I wonder if Apple will sue HTC for stealing their technology

Back to the phones. I been very happy with the Desire and if the Sens' is a bigger Desire then I'll probably be happy, but I will give the Sammy the once over.

There you go again, getting all upset. Yes, I own a Galaxy S II, but I also own three iPhone 4's, an iPad & iPad2, a Desire HD, a Nokia N900 (and lots more I can't be bothered to mention).

And *shock* I'm buying a Sensation.

I discuss all relevant points about any phone, I don't just brush them under the carpet. When presented with proof that there MAY be an antenna fault, I thought it was a good discussion point, is it not?

I did the same in the Galaxy S II thread as it seems a lot of them have a minor screen fault, I didn't notice people getting upset in there.

Also the fact it seems to have a fairly weak Wifi signal, but again, nobody seems to be getting upset in there either.

I've even got retweets from Robbo in my Twitter feed slagging the Sensation off - and I don't have him on Twitter! He's as obsessed with the Sensation as he used to be with the iPhone. ;)

...are you serious? I sent Paul O'Brien the GSMArena article, I didn't **** it off, I found it interesting. I have a general interest in phones, the fact I get branded silly names because people don't like the truth is just a sad result of being honest.

This thread is just like going and posting anything negative in any thread about an iPhone, you get kids throwing their toys out of the pram over anything and everything, its tiresome.

This is a thread for DISCUSSION about the HTC Sensation, good and bad, if you can't handle any bad points (zoomee) then I strongly suggest you find something else to worry about because no phone is perfect. Or alternatively, go and join a HTC fan forum, you won't get much negative stuff there.

Anyway, when I get both the phones I will be doing a large (and neutral) review, you can read that if you like. :)

I have almost a 10" hand span and I easily cover 80%+ of the back of the phone when holding it with one hand, let alone two!

If I'm honest, I find your posts very entertaining/informative but you really are a fanboy sometimes. Whether it's hating the iPhone to the point of obsessiveness for a few years or now the Sensation-hate you do tend to go over the top. ;)

I'll wait to review them both myself for an unbiased opinion, athough I'll be getting an SGS2 for the moment.

Why on earth would you buy 3x iPhone 4's?

My original one that I use now and again, a white one and a spare one (I didn't buy them all at the same time and one was a free company phone :p)

I used to dislike the iPhone until the iPhone 4, obsessively is just not fair

I was certainly a bit of an Android fanboy around the Desire era though I admit :p

I don't hate the Sensation at all, I think the Galaxy S II is technically superior but can you point me to someone who doesn't? I'm not buying one just to review, I want to see how I get on with it, my main use is web browsing and I think the qHD res might be more pleasant for browsing the forums for example, and (brace yourselves here) I do prefer the Sensation's build, but I still don't agree the Galaxy S II build is poor.
