***The Official HTC Sensation thread***

Watched a couple of video reviews yesteday and the positioning of the headphone socket and loudspeaker look like they would cause problems when watching a video. Most users would rotate the phone 90% left and if right-handed hold the phone in their left hand placing their hand towards the bottom corner.

With heaphones plugged in you wouldn't be able hold the phone in your left hand comfortably. Without headphones your fingers would wrap around the back of the phone and cover the loudspeaker.

On the SGS II the heaphone socket is on the top right and doesn't get in the way when the phone is held as above. It was something I looked at before buiyng the phone.

Far to many horror stories of gorilla glass smashing/scratching I always use screen protectors on any phone I have had and I will always continue to use them, if they are fitted correctly you can't notice them.

I have had one on mine from new over a month ago and its still doing the job nicely, I am happy in knowing if something happens and it gets scratched my screen isn't :D

If there was a very strong piece of grit against the screen, it would take a lot of force for it to actually scratch it. Much more than sitting down with it in a trouser pocket most likely.

I've never scratched a smartphone screen to this day and I certainly haven't been super careful with any of the phones. I'm either just lucky or you are unlucky, you suggested before you got the phone you should probably get a screen protector if I remember rightly? You're cursed! :p

I've never used a screen protector, I have had next to no screen damage on my previous iPhones or my Desire, despite the rest of the casing being battered. Even if I did get a small scratch it would look less conspicious than a screen protector or case.

Indeed, I've never seen a screen protector that does a good enough job to make it worth using. I've fitted (perfectly) the best and most expensive ones and I still don't like them.

Everyone is fussing over how good the screens are on these new phones and then they ruin them like that :o :(

All it takes is one mishap and you have a scratched screen anything can happen, I will wait for a thread to pop up " Damn I scratched my screen " ;)

You can't notice you have a protector on I certainly notice no difference when I put one on a new phone for the first time.

And it would still look better than a screen with a protector on. A screen protector would get absolutely destroyed in my pocket, as demonstrated by a week or two with an Xperia Arc with one fitted from the factory. I want my phone to look good for me the majority of the time, I don't care about the screen being 100% brand new looking by the time I get rid of it. My Desire has two scratches on it after a year of abuse and you'd struggle to see those.

It should come with it pre-factory fiited like on the SE X10. You wouldn't have known it was there.

It would then give the end user the option of whether to keep it.

I took a few close ups comparing gorilla glass and the older toughened stuff recently (due to one or two large chips appearing on my Defy)
It might help anyone thinking about getting/keeping/removing a screen protector.

Both phones have been well used, abused, caseless and without a screen protector. So, lots of impacts with keys/change in pockets, drops and general silliness :D (same area/scale for both pics)

Conclusion:
Gorilla glass hardly scratches but it's prone to the odd deep/large chip that'll have you saying... 'FUUU, where did that come from?'
Toughened glass gets lots of small, shallow scratches regularly but less deep ones you can feel/notice.

Well they do make neat dremil workbenches

The small squares you can see in the second pic are about 0.15mm wide, all the scratches are unnoticeable with the screen on.
Screen protectors and finger prints impact IQ more than these minor scuffs, if your not concerned about resale value why use one?

I am concerned about resale and have never used a screen protector :) My 14 month old Desire has more nicks on the bezel (2) than on the screen (0) after living in my hip pocket.
