***The Official HTC Sensation thread***

Bro received his this morning - having a play around now

It will be interesting to see what you think.

It seems a great phone even against the Galaxy S II until you actually have to choose which one to take with you when you go out (unless you take both :p), and then unfortunately all its comparative shortcomings become quite clear.

It's a very good phone though. I do like it.

I'm torn between the two really. I like the design of the Sensation, and my daughter has one, but I seem to keep reading that the Samsung is the better phone.

Decisions decisions....!

It is the better phone based on how much you value -
  • Loudspeaker volume
  • Battery life
  • Camera
  • HD video recording
  • Screen viewing angles/contrast
  • Modding, etc

My first impression of the Sensation it self is its a nice look handset which is built well and looks nice...nothing outstanding...more like an evolution of my old desire.

A big aspect for me is the screen - its very sharp and colourful and responsive - most people would have no issues with it. However coming from an OLED desire and SGS2 I could not go back to an LCD of this standard. Colours are not saturated enough and blacks are a little grey - this becomes 1000 times worse when off axis. Brightness levels are fine.

The qHD display whilst sharp it has downsides when I want to have that same layout from my 800x480 phones as the apps/widgets don't quite sit/look the same.

In terms of speedyness - the phone is plenty fast - app install very quickly and webs pages render fast. However is still doesn't have the IOS WP7 butter smoothness which can only be achieved through GPU acceleration as shown with the SGS2.

Sense 3.0 is nice and prettly and all but the launcher lacks a whole host of custom features of Go launcher. Which means if I change launcher I lose all the sense widgets. Sense it good for a novice users or people that aren't bothered about extra features of other launchers but for me its a no go.

I haven't really tested the other stuff like camera and call quality etc as of yet.

damn got my phone yesterday afternoon, damn i just love the smoothness of the phone, the speed and also the video buffer rate, for the video, only one problem is that it is simlocked. Damn why cant company just release the phone simfree when they tie you into a 24 month contract...now i gotta find someone to unlocked the phone for me for some bread and water...lol

Does anyone know when its due out on Orange? They seem to be really dragging their feet on the release

Got a call last night letting me know that they've released their stock, I made my order there and then.
With my 25% loyalty discount I got a free handset with 600 mins, unlimited texts and 500 mb of data for £22 per/mo and it should be arriving tomorrow :)

This is pretty much the reason I switched to the SGSII after getting the Sensation, the screen didn't wow me enough like when I first watched video on my Cowon S9, can't go back to LCD!

Anyone found any decent screen protectors for the Sensation? I bought some but due to the bevelled edges of the screen they don't stick down at the edges, and peel off almost straight away.
